Lee Newbie
evening all, wondering if anyone can help me out here, ive currently got my shot gun cabinet bolted directly to the wall flush at the back and level witht the floor but ive just purchased a new cabiet which i think is too big to have there so would i be able to put it inside a wardrobe screwing it threw the back of the wardrobe into a solid brick wall but it would oviously be off the floor as it would sit on the bottom of the wardrobe. sorry if its long winded but hope someone understands what i mean Edited June 24, 2010 by Lee Newbie
apache
So long as it secured to a [preferably] brick or stone wall it will be fine!
Dekers
There is NO problem siting the cabinet in a wardrobe. Raised from the floor is not ideal, but if the cabinet is FIRMLY affixed to a structural wall then there isn't an issue!

Vipa
That is how I have it..... raised off the floor sat on the wardrobe floor. It is secured very firmly to the wall though. FEO thought it was cool... especially when I showed him the size of the bolts going into the wall...
njc110381
I had my first safe like that and my FEO commented that it's actually a very good place to put them. Out of sight unless someone's really searching the place and not obvious to casual visitors.

Wilkoca
Mines in the wardrobe - cut the base and the back off the wardrobe, cut out the skirting, screwed and glued to the floor and bolted to the wall, concrete the gaps and gripfill the edges. she aint going nowhere
Norrie
Hiya, Tho mine isnt in a wardrobe, it is in a cupboard in the spare bedroom...much the same size as a wardrobe...it sits bolted on planks , which are maybe 14in off the floor...and its bolted to the brick wall behind it...one thing I did was bolt on a piece of steel sheet to the face of the platform...which would (hopefully) make it harder for anyone to get under the cabinet... The walls werent perfectly inline..so, as the poster above said, I filled the spaces on the cabinet and ammo safe with about 4 tubes of Sikkaflex....and that def aint going anywhere. My FEO was very happy with the setup....I also bolted a heavy duty hasp and staple ( for a padlock ) to the door and door frame... Edited June 25, 2010 by Norrie
Imperfection
Raised from the floor is not ideal, but if the cabinet is FIRMLY affixed to a structural wall then there isn't an issue! My FEO asked me why i didnt raise them above the skirting.By his own admission he said it saves having to cut sections out of skirting and is how he did his. I did this for a mate just anchor bolted to wall above skirting, mine is bolted too floor and through the skirting with an MDF board behind which packs the wall out to level with skirting the MDF is screwed to the wall and as its in a corner its in behind and too the side the bolts go through the MDF into the wall if i did it again i would do it slightly differently but FEO was plenty happy with it. Seen some cabinets in odd locations many in wardrobes but also seen some in the hall next to the front door!

My response was nothing to do with skirting boards, simply down to the fact that if it is raised above the floor then, easier leverage to remove it and one side harder to affix.
