WGD
There are many HMR users on here, how many ran in the barrel as you would a centre fire rifle? Personally I would on the the basis that the magnum cartridge (compared to .22LR) is faster, dirtier and will leave copper deposits in the rifling but other people I shoot with have used the philosophy of there being no need to run in a rimfire. Ozzy Fudd
going to have to disagree. my marlin's accuracy has been all over the place, shot perfectly the first few weeks, now its a disaster, needs cleaned every 20 or 30 rounds to maintain accuracy. also know someone who has an aschutz that is having similar problems at the mo, but ill let him post if he wants. both guns were brand new
al4x
should have got a cz the yanks go a lot on running them in and lots on here claim accuracy improves after 250 rounds or so so I guess it can't hurt to clean regularly to start with not sure about after every round but certainly bung a few through clean and repeat and see how it goes

My target looked like I had used a shotgun until it had a clean, then I got good groups. I was holding off on cleaning till accuracy went so put 200 rnds through the 917,waiting for good groups. As it got dirtier it got worse though. Big mistake . The lack of consistency was putting me off using it in the field . One last visit to the range this Sunday as a confidence booster then off out on the crows all being well.
ioan
I have a CZ varmint, didn't really need running in shoots as good now as it did when i bought it, i clean it every 300 rounds or so!
deputy dog
My hmr fired true and accurate straight from the box. Some people swear by breaking them in like center fires. But in my experience. Open the box attach the sight properly and just shoot. Clean the barrel if an when necessary. ATB Gareth
WGD
Thanks for the various opinions, I will probably run it in anyway - if it does no good it will do no harm.
Mr_Logic
I don't run in a CF anyway, and they're fine too. Only thing with a CF is to make sure they don't get hot, that's not really an issue with HMR.
