joeainscow
Hi, I was planning on spending some of my summer wages on a gsg-5. Thought it would be ideal as a bunny basher? Any thoughts or suggestions? http://www.targetsportsmagazine.com/featur...gunswunderkind/ Joe
neil smith
I shot one at Worcester when they fist came out, save your money they are **** ! They have a really thin barrel & are having other parts failures. The S&W M&P 15-22 or the new Sig .22 are better in that price range N
welsh warrior
just a quick question about semis if i was to buy a bolt action then i would have to take the bolt out and put it in my ammo lock up right? but what if i had a semi what do you do then do you have to take ot apart? and that look the muts nuts i havnt used one but im looking for rim fire to and i have seen them in my local shop thing is carrying a look alike mp5 or what ever is not such a good thing in my view with all whats going on the news
Cannon
Fired a GSG-5 before and to be honest it felt like a toy. There are some really good M4 varients out there as well as the above mentioned Sig .22. With regards bunny bashing with a semi auto I've never trusted them with accuracy. Not that there's anything wrong with them, it's just that I would get more satisfaction loading a single uninterrupted round (not affected by a following round in any way) into an old skool bolt action and humanely dispatching that way. Katash
Think about it, walking around the countryside shooting with a military looking weapon, especially one that is based on a very publically recognisable MP5 is not the best idea in the world. With reference about the actual weapon itself, the owner of a gun clubs son has one (only about 12 so its on his dads licence) .... He said they are great guns but the mags are **** then he showed me - Pulled the follower down and let it spring up and it didnt reach the top of the mag multiple times. AFAIK the GSG-5 is no longer made due to a sucsessful legal challange by H&K, the design has changed and is now called the GSG-522 H&K have made a licenced copy via Umarex - Here as well as the HK 416 but I'm not aware of any UK importers currently (may not be officially released yet)
joeainscow
That's taken me slightly by surprise. The reviews i read all seemed to be positive. But a review can't beat everyday use. I think i'll steer away from gsg and look at the colt, sig and s&w offerings. Are these far more reliable? I know with semi's they're reliable to level that they're cleaned, but is the build quality any good? Joe
BlaserF3
I would recommend a Sako Finnfire for rabbits, they don't go wrong and will last you a life time.

They're being released at the end of this month according to their site. I don't know why but i've always liked mp5's. So if H&K are willing to put their name on in i'd assume the quality would be their? We're quite fortunate on our land that the vast majority has no footpaths running through it and therefore no one legally should be in the vicinity. I do fully understand what your saying in regards to disrupting the peace and causing unnecessary distress. I am a member of a rifle club and if it's a bit risky using it in the day i may just resort to having it as a range gun or lamping gun at nite for the rabbits. Slug
I know two people who have them, they break. and seem very ammo fussy, I will get a .22 but purely for Practical Mini-Rifle, Pete Starley reckons the V22 is the best but not the cheapest on the market.. Have a looky.. http://www.southern-gun.co.uk/?page=items&...amp;item_id=
al4x
it actually worries me someone actually thinks its a good thing to be walking round the countryside with a gun looking like that. Its a target toy not a vermin control tool, get a cz rimfire for a bunny gun
Breastman
I've had mine for nearly 2 years now and apart from 1 brand of sub-sonics i could count on one hand how many mis-feed/malfunctions i've had. I just use mine for mini-rifle comps and targets at a club so haven't really 'abused' it. From my experience those who criticise semi's reliability are people who don't 'believe' in cleaning guns After semi-auto full-bore rifles and pistols were banned, the UK shooting scene has lost/forgot a lot of its knowledge regarding semi-autos and for some reason some people are surprised when a semi stops working when they've only been giving it the same maintanence as a bolt-action rifle or O/U shotgun It'll be interesting to see how the H&K version will be priced . . . Joe In its defence, the guy recons they are fantastic guns, mag issue aside and as he explained it just needed some minor adjustments to be made to it (smooth off any rough edges etc ...) And according to the owner of a gunshop I was in this morning they are fantastically accurate (could be sales bull tho) and offered me one new for £550 The one at our club has had a fair bit spent 'pimping' it up tho with collapsable stock, double stacked mags, laser & reflex sights etc ...... I'm still waiting for my FAC and I originally had my heart set on a GSG but after using a Marlin 795 I fell in love with it and the reviews suggest its fantastic! Went in to enquire today on a price and was told £250 new (inc VAT) so I'm gonna settle for that .... Will probably be better suited for rabbits past 60yds than a GSG anyway
joeainscow
[quote It'll be interesting to see how the H&K version will be priced . . . I've asked at the gun shop i use to get a price and potential order date. According to the 2010 shooting show in the states they're retailing for $700! So around the same price as the gsg version. I fully agree with you on the cleaning part. If you look after your gun, it'll look after you. Joe

A shop about 15mins drive from me specialise in them. Nice looking rifles. I had to pick between on of those and a remmington 700 in .223 I chose the remmington. http://www.nwcustomparts.com/ar15/spikes.h...ry/built_07.jpg joe
