Can I assume I've got everything I asked for? Colster Posted July 22, 2010 Author Report Share Posted July 22, 2010 they would usually advise and talk to you about any issues so sounds like you probably have the lot, odd you didn't get a visit going from rimfire to centrefire, I did have a visit from my FEO but he's very non-committal, uses phrases like "well it's not down to me", "I'll put in the paperwork and see what happens" - he's quite new but he didn't have any issues with my requests - said I should strongly consider getting a bigger cabinet but to be honest the .223 would probably only happen if I came into some money. Who did you end up with colster? steve webb? I got my 1st centre fire without a visit, the second variation i'd asked for a lot more so i suppose they thought they'd better check me out. My justification for needing a .223 was for if land was only cleared up to .22CF Who did you end up with colster? steve webb? What experiance do you have with deer? I've been dealing with Roy Harbour and I've had to jump through about 643 different hoops to prove I know enough about the bloody things to hold a .243. I've done a fair bit of accompanied stalking with a mate who's a forest ranger and has his DSC 1 & 2. I've skinned and jointed a couple under supervision and done one on my own. Shot 4 munties so far. My mate has offered to stand as mentor but I think my grant will come back without a mentoring condition as he's heard nothing from them. I had to get rid of some shotgun also, as my dad has gun in the house as well as my wife and myself, so i had to get rid of 3 shotguns so they could grant 3 rifles. The visit werent too bad, he came to see my dad as well for his shotgun renewal, as well as my fac grant, infact my dad got more grieve about his renewal than i had, no questions asked on safety or backstops etc, all he wanted was to make sure i had the land to use them on. all my guns are kept at my parents, i dont live there just store my guns there, i live less than 1/2 a mile away thou. so first fac .22lr .223 and .308 including moderators, ammo allowance buy 300 keep 500, so all in all not bad for first grant. silpig5 Posted July 23, 2010 Report Share Posted July 23, 2010 i had paddy bow , he said no probs with a 243 , just limited to fox until a friend/mentor (whom he knows allready ) sends in a letter to sayi was competant at deer then it would be changed to deer . had provisional pass for 22lr,17hmr,fac12g,243. just waiting for it in post to see whats what. saying that ive known paddy since i was 9 and im now 40 , fair to say he does know me and all my past. goldypurple Posted July 23, 2010 Report Share Posted July 23, 2010 Had enough space in cabinets, had a in the house my dad has a cabinet for shotgun, i have a cabinet for shotguns that have mine in and also my wifes, then another cabinet for my rifles. i think the issue, is that there was too many guns in the house, so they wouldnt allow the rifles until i had got rid of some, to be fair have the shotgun i didnt use anyway. i probably wouldnt have to of got rid if i agreed to the additional security thay required Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ah that's interesting, I did give my mate's details to the FEO as the person I'd gained experience with but I'd assumed if they were going to use him as a mentor that they'd want something from him in writing say he was willing to act as a mentor. I checked with the FLO last week and they said to ring them if cert hadn't arrived by middle of this week as it had been printed on the 19th, Weds came and no cert so phoned up and was told my cert was back with the FEO pending a home visit to inspect my second cabinet!?! Phoned FEO and he came out to see me. I said that I could fit 3 guns in the existing one but would look to add/replace if I was to buy all three. He was happy with that, has put a note on my file to that effect (If I bought all three, they would arrange a home visit and expect to see another cabinet or the old one replaced with a bigger one) They didn't open my FAC Air in the end (I'm guessing he forgot) but not too bothered, I don't use it anywhere currently that isn't cleared in excess of that anyway. ...but I did get the .223 and .243 both for fox, deer and other legal quarry with no mentoring... so I can't complain. jonesbach Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 they're a lot easier going up with you then!! when i applied for my FAC 6 yrs ago i had to prove i had enough land with the vermin on to start with, then i had to have a letter confirming i had "supervision from a FAC holder for 6months" if it was granted. when i applied for an open cert i was denied because they said i had no reason for it..i had over 2500 acres on my licence by then! finally got granted open on my renewal and added .223 but not without 100 Q's again and back to square 1 having to get doc 4's signed..they wont even cross check farms already cleared for .223 and just *** them to my licence! :unsure: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Good news for you i also got my variation back the other day with everything i asked for (6.5x55 and .223 both open) after holding a fac for 10 months. Its a great feeling.
