955i
Just wondering whether people felt they brought with their heads or their hearts when getting a new gun? Is the important thing for you how accessible/cheap spares are? Do you have a budget and stick to it rigidly? Do you pay particular attention to the specifications? Do you research for hours reading reviews and user recommendations? Or do you just fall for a certain gun and have to have it even if its not the most sensible option (parts hard to get/overbudget etc). al4x
generally with my head, though I'm usually swayed by a good deal so can be fickle if the money is right
mickmep
do like a bargain, especially if its got beretta stamped on it my flanigan was a definate heart buy, saw one at a clay shoot and like the look of it. bought one and love it, not for the shy types though, does stand out a bit. njc110381
I'm well known for buying what I fancy. Some of it is verging on pointless but so what? I enjoy it and that's why I do it! Take for example my .375H&H. Bought it to go to Canada and had no use for it when I got home. Oh well, it was fun! Now I've got the .338 Win Mag, again for Canada but I can shoot it here too. I have Munties and Roe on my land, nothing bigger. I'll bunny bash with it now and again but that's about it! Why not? Again, it's fun. I'll probably change it in a few months anyway! 955i
The main reason that I ask is that I am looking at a new rifle that I know will be tricky, if not impossible to get parts for and even a spare mag will have to be imported and modified by a gunsmith to make it fit as they are generic to all the makers rifles and have to be adjusted according to the model. My head knows that I should go for one with more accessible parts, but I just like the look of this one more than the others in my price range

Bloke
I bought with my head but pre-chose with heart. I spent a lot of time with catalogues etc, came up with a short list of guns i liked for appearance/style etc, then went out and handled them/shot them, before finally deciding. Nothing more frustrating than having a main gun out of action

Nothing more frustrating than having a main gun out of action Yeah, if its out of action I can live with it Just to add, I did indeed buy with my heart and here the little beauty is . It's a now discontinued Gavarm E-1 semi .22LR and is in great condition. Not a lot of info on them out there but is definately an interesting little gun. Big thanks to Mick (Wabbitbosher) for furnishing me with it and letting me tie up his day for a while
ziplex
My first gun was a Silver Pigeon and was bought because I liked the look of it, realised a year on it didn't fit me well.....always buy with my head now!

Guest
Both, but more head to be fair. I bought my 2nd hand Miroku MK70 Sport from an add on here 18 months ago, fits like a glove, looks nice enough, understated, not cheap, nor flashy and over the top. Had tried various makes/models and looked at new, read reviews, taken advice. I'd describe it as the VW Golf of guns. But I honestly am not interested in any other guns, this is the one for me, and I wouldn't mind if I never used another shotgun, no matter how expensive or pretty. groach1234
For rifles it is the head but i find them to be more technical tools. As for shotguns its heart but i shot and old english side by side so suppose thats obvious George
