mrpigeon
What is the best cartridges to use on Game (Pheasants) Not too expensive though?
apache
Do you know what an oxymoron is? Cheapest and best is one! Gamebore Black Gold probably the best. Like Hull cartridges too. I have some Gamebore Pure Gold 30g/6's and like them Some go up to 32g [even 35g], some like 5's for high birds.
mrpigeon
Forgot to mention, available in 20 bore
apache
Forgot to mention, available in 20 bore Now that's a biggie! AFAIK you can get the Pure Gold as a 20G but not the Black Bold. Can't be ***** to look but sure Hull load some 20G game loads.
Whitebridges
I can vouch for Hull Sterling Game 28g No6.

MC
21gm steel loads for me. Cheap, and light on the shoulder Would that be a 7.5 or a 9?
poontang
Would that be a 7.5 or a 9? If i can get 9's they would be best, the more shot in the air the better Besides, everyone knows it's pattern that kills, not penetration
paul99
RC Sipe 28g are pretty good in in 12b and 20b not the cheapest but then good game cartridges aren't going to be especially in 20b. I used to be a big fan of Express Supreme Game when you used to be able to get them in 20b that's going back a bit now though the alternatives like the super / special aren't in the same league at all IMO - some like them though so worth looking at and would likely be one of the cheaper options. As above Gamebore Pure gold are OK too. I wish I could get hold of Hull cartridges around here as always fancied trying their game loads in both 12b and 20b. al4x
What is the best cartridges to use on Game (Pheasants) Not too expensive though? what do you use on pigeon? Personally most of mine get a 32gram eley hawk in 6.5 and don't complain but that is 12g, generally though most pigeon loads of 6's will be fine. On a shoot I beat on the owner uses clear pigeon cartridges through his 100K purdey always makes me laugh. But then it is an inherited gun and he treats it worse than i treat my £250 auto if it wasn't for his keeper cleaning it he wouldn't bother Oh what its like to have "family" money
MC
I don't get it, Why should using clear pigeon through a Purdey be treating it badly? Are you supposed to have have cartridges hand loaded by virgin maidens who count the shot individually if you own a Purdey? Or haven't Gamebore been is business long enough to be warranted worthy of being fired in a Purdey?

They work well but most people wouldn't use them as a dedicated game load, he uses them on everything grouse included and till he got threatened with arrest muntjac

My favourite had a bit of an accident after too many cocktails in the local nightclub and I need another as I'm running out of cigars. Many thanks. Beretta28g
For pheasnts, .22lr ratshot should do the job If you wanted to shoot pigeons as well you could use 21g 9's Or you could follow tradition and go 30/32g 5/6's Edited August 9, 2010 by Beretta28g
