Sprinter
Im using 28gram 6s on pigeons funnily enough there some RC SIPES which i managed to get cheap off of a bloke in the gunshop, somehow i dont think ill be getting them cheap again I had been advised to use Eley CTs 28 gram 6s? anyone recommend them? At risk of returning this thread somewhere near to the rails..... Eley CT28 in 6s (also come in 5s) are a game/live load, rest of range are clay loads. I sometimes use these for pigeon. For pheasant i tend to use Eley VIP Game 28/30g or Fiocchi GFL 20 in 28g. If you are on a budget the ct28s in 6 will do the job and all of the above are available in fibre wad. Westcountryman
I just use whatever No.6 30g carts ive been using all year round. Eley HP are my current cartridge. That way, I know how they perform and go where I expect them to go.
libs
Are cats known for taking one's sense of humour? Not really, the collars reflect the lamp from any angle so theres not that many about to be doing any taking.

Beardo
that's bizarre - even the box has clays on it!
Whitebridges
It is bizarre but i've tried the Eley CT 20 bore in no 6 shot and yes they came in boxes with clays on the front.
groach1234
Right in a 20 bore eley VIP in 28g 6s would do nicely. I shoot VIPs in 30g 6s through my 12 on the pheasants and game bore pure gold (sometime a paper case too) in 28g 6s for the partridge. JonnyR
Without wanting to be an old duffer. I don't get the cheap cartridge thing for pheasants. A 1000 expensive cartridges might cost £250. A cheap slab, £200ish. You save about £50. Don't know about you but I am not wealthy enough to shoot more than this in a season, and then some. A pheasant costs about £30 on a commercial shoot. Saving £50 seems to pale into insignificance. I use D&J's - obviously! Or if I am feeling poor - Hull Sterling Game!!!
Ferret Master
The Eley CT was also developed as a game cartridge due to popular demand from shooters who liked the cartridge on clays but needed a more suitable shot size for quarry. Ferret Master
28g of 5 or 6 with a fibre wad won't see you far wrong. Unfortunately 20 bore cartridges tend to be more expensive than 12 bore cartridges. Some of the best 20 bore loads I have shot for live quarry have been Hull Sterling Game in 28g of 6's fibre and Eley V.I.P Game 28g of 6's fibre. Neither of these are cheap though and you are probably looking at just over £200 a thousand for them now. A slightly cheaper load worth looking at could be the Eley C.T. in 6's. However this is also available as a clay cartridge in shot sizes 7.5, 8 and 9 so make sure you don't get them mixed up or be sold the wrong stuff. At the end of the day no cartridges are cheap anymore. If you are game shooting the chances are you aren't going to be shooting a huge quantity unless you are being presented with a lot of birds. In which case you probably have the money to fork out for decent cartridges. So buying a good quality cartridge is definitely a good investment, especially as you are probably going to be chucking slightly less lead at your bird than somebody shooting a 12 bore. FM ^^^^^^^^^^^ I made this post on the matter of 20 bore game cartridges just the other day in a different thread. I think it covers most of what you need to know.
