alexr
Hi Cookie. Welcome to pigeon watch. For a licence to be useful it might be best if your dad applies for one first. He will need a gun cabinet and the appropriate form. He can get the form from the local police. Here in Manchester the local police station gave me the number of the fire arms licensing department, I phoned them and they sent out the form, but different regions work in different ways. The cabinet needs to be properly secured. When the FLO came round to inspect mine she tried to pull it off the wall. There are other legal exclusions as to who can hold a certificate so check the BASC web site to make sure your dad can apply. He should have some experience with a shot gun and they may ask about that. A lesson at the local clay ground would constitute experience. Now from a legal stand point I think that being under 18 you would not be able to purchase either a gun or ammunition, rather it would have to be given to you. You can share the cabinet with another person, ie your dad. Unless you are accompanied by the person who owns the land on which you shoot or it is registered in the appropriate manor ( ie a clay ground ) you would not be allowed to shoot unless you had your licence. If you are only intending to shoot clays with your dad then you might want to wait before applying, but that is up to you. Hope that helps Alex
