sweepy
Any body got any idea I have 2 male ferrets both brothers and are about 8mths old and live together the trouble is 1 is tame and docile as anything (great worker)the other always tries to bite you as soon as you try and pick him up they have both been handled very regularly but as soon as he is working he is no problem. Is this going to be a case of grin and bare it
CHARLY
This has happened to me twice with Jills, two pairs of sisters bred from great working mothers but one was docile and a good worker and the other nasty and refused to leave the bury. I must admit I disposed of the Cobby one in both cases. you say he works well, if thats so and he lets you handle him while you are out I`d say he`s probably worth persisting with. hope that helps. flash
my sister has two albino jill ferrets that i mean to work when they are older but one is perfectly fine for handling but often the other one will bite or try to bite you so we were told to squeeze its paw when it bites and this will make it stop. i havent tried it yet because they havent bit me in a while. i would not necesarily try it as it may not work and i dont want to cause you un necessary pain flash Edited January 3, 2006 by flash

henry d
It`s just like a puppy, give it time.If it persists then, using the 2nd knuckle of your free hand, push it into the mouth as it tries to bite and I don`t mean gently. Also try spitting on the palm of your hand when you greet them each morning and let it lick it,disgusting but they like it, and they seem to calm as it`s a routine. old rooster
Similar to some other ideas, pinch it's nose, very sensitive area. Never hit them even gently as it will only make it worse.

Ferretboy111
Only squeeze their paws when you want them to let go of something, ie: a rabbit or hand, i have 7 ferrets and non of them bite, even the youngest one 5 months doesnt bite. Not regular handling or punishment for when they do try to nip makes them biters, a light tap of the nose and a stearn NO, will do the trick or scruff the ferret and say NO to it and isolate it for a while. Ive never had a ferret which is scared or has bitten me, only a few kit nips and they werent even bad ones. They soon learn. And become very calm, but still great workers. Ferret Master
Hi, Put a bit of egg or milk onto your hand and let them lick it off. Once it has finished the treat it may procede to bite your hand, if this is the case and it is a kit then flick it on the nose. If it is a big adult hob a GENLTE slap to the head is recomended. It is not the power of the hit. It is the shock that you will fight back and that you are dominant over the little slinky stinky. FM
