TJ91
i landed myself some great permission today by going to the farm and asking for the landowner. if YOU dont ask today someone else may well ask tomorrow and you may have lost out. you should know how many people are looking out for new permisions they dont bite, just get out ther and get knocking on some doors. yes at times you probably will get knocked back..we all do, just keep trying local pub is sometimes a good place to meet farmers (on a wet night!) apache
Farms have a sign at the entrance giving its name, Google the name of the farm and you will get the farmers name. Not round here they [often] don't. Looking for a farm in the middle of nowhere @3am to calve a cow............ If it's a livestock area you could look in the paper for auction mart results, that will often give you farmer and farm name. Or look in the phonebook and play detective. hawkeye
Or ask the local vet

b682
If you don't ask you don't get. I stopped today and had opportunity to speak with a "farmer" by his tractor, a phone call followed - end result 190 acres more shooting. but I have also had lots of no thanks, don't need any more help etc - but the one yes is worth the many no's. so get out and ask - make sure you have insurance as that is always asked for - normally before any other decision is reached. soreshoulder
Great advice but i would not approach a farmer on his land that i dont know, or who does not know me with my guns in the car Ian. i think everyone over estimates what farmers will think if you were a hat or if you turn up with odd socks etc Just go and ask, no farmers ever asked to see my license or to see my insurance, i save those for plod if he comes along, they've usually got better things to do than looking at pieces of paper or signing slips of paper Just go and ask, if he wants you there hell let you go, if not - no amount of paper is gonna change his mind
