steve0146
I'm looking after my mates spaniel while he is on holiday. Its kennelled outside and its not the cleanest environment to say the least. Not sure how to say to him about the state of his kennels without offending a friend. Anyway, I was cleaning the dog out this morning ( its 6 months old) and it had a massive whiteish worm wrapped up in its poo. I have two dogs myself but never seen anything like this. Anyone else experienced this? I will say to get it wormed when he returns in a couple of days.
J@mes
I wouldn't worry about offending him to be honest. Just come out and say it - he may thank you for opening his eyes or he might tell you to **** off. In which case, he isn't much of a friend. Mungler
Do the dog a favour and give it a wheel barrow load of Bob Martin and Front Line and maybe a nice bit of chicken.
bicykillgaz
i agree with mungler go get some 'advocate' from the vets its only about £6.00 and get some photo's of the worms to show your mate it might open his eyes, that way he can see your not been funny the dog gets sorted and hopefully he bucks his ideas up
apache
Do the dog a favour and give it a wheel barrow load of Bob Martin or a wormer that works. Drontal or Milbemax.
garyb
Was the worm flat or round? Listen to Apache, over the supermarket counter wormers are cack.
ziplex
Whatever's best, got to give the mutt something and tell your mate when he gets back what a sorry state both his dog and his dog's living arrangments are. If the worms are that size he must have an infestation?!
steve0146
it was round, about 6 cm long. I thought it was just something she ate but as i scooped the poo up, it started moving. I have not seen any more or any signs. She is not fat or bloated or eating loads. I give our own dogs drontal plus. Its frustrating as he loves his dogs but they could be kept better. Sounds like an ascrid worm - roundworm. Likely to be in the toxocara family. Easily treated with an appropriate product (Panacur does roundworms nice and safely in addition to my earlier suggestion, but not good for all tapeworms). Drontal will do nicely. teal27
Dont the worms pass through when the dogs been treated, which case your mate may of already treated the dog and the worms could be on their way out!
steve0146
Thats a fair comment Teal27, I never thought of that. I just wormed her last night with drontal plus.
al4x
that'll do the job, I'd just point out you found one to him and you never know it may be as a result of being wormed before he went. if not suggest he buys some with you as they are dirt cheap online and buying together saves on the postage
activeviii
If it was me then i would give the kennel a good clean down, you have wormed as well. tell your mate that you found worms in the stool so to be on the safe side you have wormed the poor pup and cleaned every thing down. make up a bit of a story about how worms can stay in the kennel like fleas do so he needs to keep the kennel clean and spotless or the pup will just keep getting worms. then tell him that the kennel could do with it any way. shouldn't offend him but with luck he will start cleaning the kennel down once a week and giving it a good scrub. I do mine every morning. pick up the mess, jays fluid the walls and floors and then rinse down. after that i leave to dry before dogs go back in there. Phil.
