scolopax
Some of them old canada's could be easily twenty years old, probably older than some of those pulling the trigger. Just something to think about next time you have one in your sights...

MC
with the old ones, put them through a mincer, (the breasts) add onions and spices, make great goose burgersdoc Or shepherds pie, Sliced thinly and flash fried does the trick as well

Is there a good method of aging pinks/greys? I've heard of trying to rip the webbing on the feet but that's about it? ATB The one I have been told is hold the Canada by the bottom beak and let the Canada hang down if it brakes under its own weight that’s a good one… Or pull the wing feathers out if the come out easy it’s a young bird… They maybe old wives tails but there not far off the mark. Every goose that is shot with us always finds it way to a plate old or young. Al

SA Shooter
Hi all, This is our first trip of the season 3 of us went up Me Sheldon and Daz off of PW… After a 4 hour drive up telling Daz about every goose we have ever shot up here building his hopes up!! We seemed to be going a bit quicker the closer we got to my ponds with the thoughts of getting a flight in , and as it happened managed to get there just in time to dump everything put the boots on grab the guns and dogs and off (What a surprise). We got out the jeep along a hedge I new they where fighting over, I put the shells in the gun and within 30seconds first goose was on the floor right over the top of me 2 yards away from the motor… and then it started goose after goose on the flight Daz got his first goose along with more everyone got shooting... I called the flight at 12 and said that’s it boys no more tonight we could of shot on but we were up for 3 days. Next day spent most of the time showing Daz around and finding where the geese were feeding for some decoying on stubble, had 2-3 flights down on a part of the river!! Shot a handful more, plenty of Rabbit shooting and the odd crow and a fox of a night. Anyway after finding the field the geese were on set the decoys (6 plastic and 6 dead birds) built a nice hide and got set after a good couple of hours geese started to move right up the valley! I started calling and they played ball decoyed well not all of them but plenty I stopped the flight at 20 geese it was a great flight. We ended the trip with 42 geese 53 rabbit 4 crows and a fox. At the moment there are about 1300 geese on both ponds with more on the river… ducks!!! well more then you could shake a stick at but we leave them be till a bit later on. All of the geese are breasted out and given to friends a family Good going mate
