HDAV
Are there any other lightweight O/U 12G's on the market? Looking for something for the missus to use, so far Franchi Falconet and Lightweight Browning 525 are options (I know of the Berretta Ultra light) but out of budget I think. I know Lighter guns kick more (but you have to be able to pick it up to pull the trigger!) but using 21g carts should be fine (this is what she currently uses in a 525 lightweight 26" they have at local ground...) Any others, not looking at semi's Over and Under only.... So any more too add to the list?
sitsinhedges
Why not also look at 20's they are light without even trying

COACH
Winchester Select lite. To be honest there is no reason she can`t use a game gun with 21g cartridges. Even if you get a ultra light gun you will still have to practice mounting it time and time again to be proficient at it. This means muscle memory and a general build of the muscles anyway so just get a game gun and get her to practice the dry mount at home for 5/10 minutes a day for two weeks and she will do it with ease. Absolutely every one should practice their dry mounting at home as often as possible. I still do after 36 years of shooting and that`s why its very smooth, precise and totally effortless. It will be far better in the long run for her I promise you. This is a very common thing in coaching newbies. fluke2
The wife borrowed her mates o/u a few weeks ago to shoot skeet when the DTL trap broke down, didnt know the gun at all but she shot 21x25 with 24gram carts and said she could have used the gun all day, turns out it was a HUGLU her mate paid £325 for 6 month old and still had warranty on it, alloy action etc but looked well built a 103 model and very light could be worth a look. welshwarrior
Buy a 20 and use 24 or 21g loads
poorpeet
Have you thought about semi auto's? Something like a Franchi Raptor, there was on on here for sale a while ago, is only just over 6 lb and very low recoil even with 12's. Plus with a modern semi you can adjust the stock to suit. (Oop's just read the original post fully! Still think a semi is a good idea though! Edited September 27, 2010 by poorpeet
HDAV
Thanks Chaps, I don't want to go the 20 Bore route as they are expensive, the carts are expensive and they aren't much lighter than 12G, Reason for not going for a semi (Franchi Raptor was a first choice of mine) is that they are more difficult to clean, harder to break down and she doesn't like them. I agree on the home mounting, I had to do that a lot to get used to mounting the gun L/H but you need a gun to practice with.... Thanks for the Tip on the HUGLU, that's what i was looking for, Winchester Select light is an option but having read the thread about the cracking stocks I have been put off a bit (and as newish model probably out of my budget)
apache
My girlfriend shoots an old Winchester 101 XTR Lightweight that she loves, although not so pretty. They pop up every now and again on guntrader. I was also given a Sarasquetta (spelling?) O/U game gun that she uses as a second gun and doesn't find too heavy. She bought a Beretta Ultralight and likes it, but only for clays as she doesn't want to knock it! Your other option is almost any SBS - they are usually light, depends if she can cope with the barrels wrong way on!?!
HDAV
She used my BSA SbS but couldn't get on with it at all, mixture of poor fit and wide sight plain meant it didn't work for her at all (shame really) I'll keep my eyes out for a winchester 101 lightweight, she really like the Lightweight 525 but i dont think i can afford one... COACH
Let her practice dry mounting on yours for now just to build the muscles up, dosen`t matter if its a lefty she`s just building muscle for the next two weeks or so, it will then be easier to go out and buy her something a little heavier because she`s use to it. It dosen`t matter what you buy, she is going to have to build those necessary muscles any way.
