mad1
can some one please advise me.i have read various posts on people wanting to home load 12g,but the feeling is it more expensive than buying shop bought.so why and how do you make it worth while? i would like to have a go then i know i would have done everything to put the game on the table if you know what i mean but is it worth it and if so how much would i expect to pay out for the initial outlay so to speak
Paddy Galore!
it's deffo worth it if you want some unusual loads, say, 34g 8's for clays if you want to cheat and put a lot of lead up in the sky  , then there's wildfowling, bismuth, tungsten, heavi shot et al, not sure what prices are for a tub of these, but i'm sure it's got to be cheaper to re load than buy new. sitsinhedges
For standard 12g target loads you usually can't buy the components for the price of factory cartridges. It becomes more worth it if you make your own shot for game loads, 20g more so, .410 even more so, and so on into non tox wildfowling loads. If you just want to add another facet to your hobby it is very interesting but anyone who thinks they will save much is kidding themselves to be honest. Vince Green
There is no cost advantage these days which is sad because at one time you could reload for half the price. except for odball cartridges these days its about personal satisfaction. Redgum
No you will not save money but it is a good hobby and you can custom make your loads, for example I wanted to get my son shooting so made up some light loads with greendot. Deadly little cartridge for decoying pigeons, use them myself sometime. When you get into the magnum goose cartridges I think you wil save money. Andy H
It's good thing to do for custom load's or small bore 410/subsonic .:etc but for say 28 gm 12 bore even making my own shot it just ain't worth it.

Guest cookoff013
for custom loads it will save money. slugs can be made for £6, a box. saving £3-6, i`ve seen some for £20, saving lots of money. subsonics too, save money, as the demand for them is less the price is high. you get better protection and performance out of steel. plus its fun.
