fluke2 Posted October 19, 2010 Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 I bought two ex waterboard landy 110s from the commercial plant auctions last year L REG And M REG Gave 6300 inc vat for both as non runners 170k and 220k on the clocks, both started with a tow off the transit van after about half a mile and drove them home from then,I sold off all the guppings inside pumps gennys etc 400 quid, steam cleaned them both off inside and out ,listed the worst one of the two the m reg 220k on the bay it sold for 4700 so listed the L reg, the same guy from birmingham bought this as well for 5100, check out the commercial auctions there is bargains about, Ive bought loads over the years like this people get scared when theyre listed as non runners and needing repairs etc. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

With a larger turning Circle! With a plastic bumper you don't have to worry about tapping the odd parked car. In my Defender I'm quite aware that I can easily "nudge" someones pride and joy to near write-off status so I'm always extra careful when parking. The visibility isn't great and the turning circle is prett big, but you can work with that and it makes you a better driver. The thing I really like about my truck is that if you have a small copse or wood to get through and there is the odd small tree in the way you can just barge your way through. Do that in a jap 4x4 and you'll have to get the airbags recharged and a new bumper to match. Jap is comfortable and faster but if you want something to drive off road and not commute to Scotland and back then the Defender does it well. I drove mine to Portsmouth a while back to go off roading and it wasn't that bad. I did once do seven hours in a 110 and that I must add was a little too much! Very considerate of you...My cousin has just learnt to drive in a 110 and he is now driving it to college 3 days a week to a city centre....... I am so jealous I got to drive mums diesel astra after i passed and guess what I now have a bloody Diesel Astra 10 years on! (at least it's the full beans 150Bhp...) Jim Sarakun Posted October 19, 2010 Report Share Posted October 19, 2010 Those Jap rice burners are not really for serious off roading, or for serious off roading types, where the vehicle is used mostly off road......... but more for people who like to look like they are serious off roading types, but the vehicle is mostly on a motorway or on the drive being polished. The Jap 4x4 just can not scoot across a ploughed field, without getting stuck, or falling apart. That is why the army do not use them. On the other hand, the Land Rover will accomplish this admirably. 80% of Land Rovers ever built, are still being driven. 98% of Jap 4x4's ever built, have now been melted down and are being used as baked bean cans. So if you want a 4x4 for shooting or driving mostly off road, go for a land Rover, you will be hard pressed to find any thing to beat it....... I once drove from Aviemore in Scotland to Colchester in Essex, non stop with the exception of fuel stops, in a 110 landy towing a trailer load of canoes. The other landy had two drivers who swapped about - bar-stewards B) As I recall it took about 14 hours and I was just about ready to kill someone by the time we pulled up in Colly - only I couldn't move, had a backside which felt like it had been shafted by Mike Tyson and was mentally drained. Last year, to trade in a 2006 defender 110 with (at the time) 32k on the clock they offered us £8500. But private sale would be ££££ or specialist dealer would too, try getting a local garage to give you a proper price on anything specialist you will struggle (that includes most Land Rover franchises a they only deal in freelanders, Dicos and RR sports...) Defenders are very collectible but finding a good one hard work...now is the time of year to sell not buy...I saw a 60 plate 110 CSW and 60 plate 110 Crewcab today looked lovely but the interior is still way behind the Santana has a much better interior and some would say engine.....
