Anthony.D
Hello All, Please can you help. I'm thinking of buying a flapping decoy or 2 to use on a bouncer. eg. Hypaflps, terminators, nemisis. I've read they are all great, then users opinions say otherwise. Thanks.

I usually just keep a couple of frozen pigeons in the freezer, get them out the night before your decoying day to defrost, stick them out on gliders/rotarys you cant beat the real thing and you dont have to pay out for new gear! Thanks TJ. I had thought of that, its just that the adverts claim these decoys are so good! I just wondered what people thought. There aren't that many pigeons down here and I don't want to spend too much eg. a rotary. That's why I'm thinking about a couple of these as a cheaper alternative. utectok
Hypa flaps on 1/4 " steel poles are magic better than dead birds IMHO as they flap and often better than magnet crow ones are good too!
Billy.
I've never been a fan of hypaflaps. They look too crow-like... I tried a flapper (using a dead bird) on a bouncer and took it down. They were spooking like mad...! Decoyed fine after it came down. Try turning the arms round on a bouncer and putting a bird, beak to bum on the spike and dig the pole in the other way round. It should fly better Edited October 19, 2010 by Billy. Anthony.D
Thanks for the comments. As I said I think I've been caught in the 'must buy this' attitude. The hypaflaps I've seen on the you tube films sometimes look good, but sometimes weird with up-turned wing tips. Interesting what you said Billy, they look 'crow like'. I've read in another thread somewhere that they look really 'bling', and have spooked birds?

I've read in another thread somewhere that they look really 'bling', and have spooked birds? Hypaflaps on bouncers are great imho Id happily throw the magnet and stick with them if I had to. You have to put them far out to lead the birds into the pattern (as opposed to the magnet which I put close in the other side of the pattern). Well it works for me! They are attractors remember the deek pattern is where you get the birds to settle. I find the magnet is far more likely to spook birds than bouncers. But Im sure others have something else that works!!

Anthony.D
Yes, thats decision made. I don't want to buy and fuss around with a rotary, I don't get to go that much - not that many in our area. So simple and easy is good. left & right
You can't do better than a pair of Chris Green traitors one of each type bit pricey but well worth it they look so real.

So simple and easy is good. everyone who is selling something will say this is the bees knees...and its the best bit of equipment you can buy;i;m sure they all work;but from experience a rotary will out do anything you can put out as a decoy aid..and i know lots of members hate them.. nothing more simple and easy to set a rotary up 5 mins and your off. I think u get more movement from hypa flaps due to the flapping I have tried both and prefer the flaps but hey each to his own !
Anthony.D
Oh Dear, You've started me off agian. Decisions, not my strong point. The hypaflaps are relatively expensive, been looking on e-bay at the 'ultimate' floaters. They look ok but no flapping. The farm where I normally go is pretty exposed. I has crossed my mind that those hypaflap wings will be a speed blurr - just before they dissappear into the heavens.
retromlc
Antony,if you don't go out much, make the most of it when you do,spend the money, get some hypa flaps,a used rotary, they turn up from time to time or a new one, they are only £100,and some half shell flocked deeks, if you can afford a gun, carts and time off then but want to spend wisely then buy once and then your're sorted and who knows they might get tempted close enough to shoot them. As i said before i got a few items,it gives me the oppertunity to mix it up if I don't think something is working E.G the other day i got 19 in 2 hours using deeks and rotary, same place this week the sun was glinting off the rotary arms so I put hypaflaps on bouncers. Choice, you gotta have it.
chrispti
Most of my good days have been with a rotary fitted with dead birds.
