Katash
What would be a reasonable cost for chopping a CZ 452 down to 16" and thread cut for a suppressor? Does it need to be re-proofed afterwards?
jamie g
doesnt need to be proofed after. only needs to be proofed if you where to sell the rifle on by law. some gunsmith dont do cut and thread with out proofing yet others do ? guess its to do with there insurance as your only in hereford i would pop to bromsgrove and see richard pope at swift rifles. ive used him for a number of things and his work is 1st class. cut, thread and crown is around 70 pound. he will do it well you wait. i no a number of people that has had work done buy him and he is one of the best imo Edited October 23, 2010 by jamie g

Paddy Galore!
mine were done by norfolk sporting guns at £30 a pop, most in this region charge in excess of £65 and are still NOT proofed. proof house charges are around £85 + shipping to and from the proof house. Last time I checked with the Birmingham Proof House (about 16-18 months ago) it was around £35 to proof a one off gun! Dealers get them cheaper if/when done in batches! Have they gone up that much??? I don't know about London, but can only assume it's about the same there!
Dekers
A few months back Neil McKillop would cut/thread/crown AND proof for £80-£85, I struggle to believe it will be any more now! He will not do the work without proof, simply down to insurance, nothing to do with legalities. Neil makes rifles for international shooters and world champions...oh yes...and does some work on mine to!

Katash
Just read this article on Edgar Bros site What barrel lengths are CZ rimfire rifles available in? Here is your answer… This depends on the model. Lux and Standard models are 22”. American, Varmint, Style, Silhouette are 20”. These models are also available in 16”. We do not recommend the cutting down of any CZ barrel due to the fact that they are hammer forged and are actually choked at the muzzle to maximise accuracy which is one of the reasons CZ rifles are renowned for their accuracy. There is also no guarantee that the bore is actually dead centre to the outside diameter in the middle of the barrel. Shortening the barrel will also invalidate the warranty. CZ rifle barrels are hammer forged from solid billets for that particular barrel length; even the 16” barrel has a special billet for the shorter barrel. If you want a shorter barrel part ex your old rifle and get a new rifle with a new three year guarantee! :s Probably bulls**t but interesting point. njc110381
Both my CZ452 Varmint .22lr and my CZ527 Hornet have been shortened from standard length. Both shoot very well so I wouldn't worry about that statement.
