Diceman
Lovely work, and a lovely bit of wood. Is the vase hollowed all the way to the outer profile ? If so how the hell do you do that ?!

Alpha Mule
WOW! Slightly off topic (although I do rate your work!): When I was a lad, my dad had a 'potato masher' exactly like your priests! Time for a phone call to the old sneak to see if he had a secret life I never knew about. Edited November 14, 2010 by Alpha Mule

Alpha Mule
Actually, forget the phone call, how much do you want for a bog standard 'potato masher'? I reckon that would make a Christmas pressie and a half (esp. as he lost his years ago).

malkiserow
Beautiful! What size lathe do you need to make pieces like that? Thanks It's an oldish 1970 cast iron Wadkin with 5foot between centres and 6inch over the bed inboard and 18 inch over the outboard bed. The big change is that I binned the old motor and put on a 240volt 3 phase run by an inverter with speed control from 1 to 3200 RPM.

Redgum
I always thought those that needed priests were maybe a little untrained in field craft as I have been dealing with rabbits and our feather friends since I was knee high. That was until I started going out with a mate ferreting, trying to stretch a rabbit in a purse or long net is a real craft and any delay is obviously distressing for the prey. Out comes me ferreting mates old chair leg and I'm converted, every tool has its place. Edited January 1, 2011 by Redgum
