webber
I usually shoot Hull Sovereigns or Hull High Pheasant; but have recently been shooting Gamebore Black Golds as I was left with some. They kill fine, but kick considerably more than the Hulls. webber

anser2
I used to have my favoured cartridges , but one thing pigeon shooting has taught me almost any shell will do the job within sensible ranges . There are one or two I will not use such as D&G as they are so dirty and I avoid shells with high recoil , but otherwise cost is the only other thing that will sway my choice.I get given Caledonian XLS 30 gr no 6s by one of the farmers I shoot pigeons for and I find they cope well for game and pigeons. dodeer
I tried some Proper Pigeon 30g 5.5's that I bought from Lings in Norfolk. Found them to be very good.
Alycidon
There are no 'bad' cartridges out there, just less accurate shots. You can buy the most expensive cartridges in the world but place the pattern three feet behind the bird and you might as well use a spud gun !. I assume you use an O/U, if using a SBS then go no further than Eley Impax or Grand Prix 30gr or Hull Imperial 26gr. For the O/U 30gr of 5 shot through even 1/4 choke will reach over 50 yards and kill very cleanly. VIP are a premium cartridge as are Black Gold and Hull High Pheasant, I have use two of those in the past to good effect. These days I use Eley Grand Prix High Pheasant, same performance, felt wad. shoots nicely in a lightweight O/U game gun, and far more modestly priced. I have used these on 2 driven days in the last week one of which I shot 2 for 1, the other shooting taller birds about 2.5 to 1. Its where you put it that counts not what brand it is. Buying VIP you are already using top end cartridges, some would say the best, you wont fold any more up by switching brands but after you have shot a few more lorry loads you will fold more up as you are more experienced. Buy ONE cartridge and STICK WITH IT for the season, you will have good days and bad but the cartridges performance will be far more consistent that the guy using it. stuey
I tried some Proper Pigeon 30g 5.5's that I bought from Lings in Norfolk. Found them to be very good. Indeed, great cartridges. They also do a copy of RC Sipes called the Snipe 32g 4's and 5's I think. Real hard hitters!!!! Stu
Guest topshot_2k
I really like RC SIPE 32g #5 but recently i have been using Eley Pigeon 32g #6.5 and get on very well with them
mikee
Me and the guy I shoot with bought just about every make of game shells we could find last winter and used them pigeon and game shooting, we judged them by the amount of runners we got when using them, by far the best clean killer was fiochi PL30, A 30g load of #5, the hardest hitting shell ive used for pigeons and game, awsome things and not stupid money either mikee
Whitebridges
I tried some Proper Pigeon 30g 5.5's that I bought from Lings in Norfolk. Found them to be very good. My ol' mate John bought a slab of these from Morston Country sports in Holt and he loves them. Top draw for pigeon he says.
Dangerzone
Black Gold 32g 5's RC SIPE 32g 5's Eley V.I.P. 32g 5's You wont find any better than those 3 for general phesant shooting!!! For skyscraper high birds, if your lucky enough to shoot them, Black Gold 35g 5's.......
