Can't get AT2s or BFG AT's

Does anyone know of anyone that has any 245/70 16 General AT2s or BFG ATs in stock. I need 2 and none of the tyre places I normal use in West Sussex can get any, they tell me they have been on back order for over a month...

Phoned up a half dozen of the online tyre places this morning, same story...

Anyone know of anywhere that might have some in stock?

Cheers

Andy

made of money Billy?

p.s why go that wide? I've just swapped my 265's for a set of 245/75/16 much better both on and off road than the wider tyres. Event tyres do have BFG's in this size but £140 a tyre the grabbers when they had them were £100 a pop

Work's going a little better than I thought. Time for a treat.

I've got 205's on mine at the moment and they just look absolutely stupid. This big car with the skinniest little tyres on it. Did you get a pic of your car with the 265's on it?

as suggested, keep a daily watch on the camskill site, waited a couple o three weeks for the size I wanted to come into stock then ordered them straight away, delivered next day, cost me £10 a corner for fitting and balance, still worked out cheaper than the local tyre specialist who was offering to fit AT2's that were not correctly rated for my car, T when I need H

265's are huge compared to 205's and will make it wander and hammer fuel economy, from memory a common landrover size is 225/75/16 I think and would be an improvement otherwise 245's are ok but will be pretty large in comparison. If you do go 265 make sure your arches are flared enough to cover them or its an MOT fail and also that the rims you have will take them and of course your speedo will be well out. 265's are the standard L200 up to 2005 tyre have a look at one they are quite large once you go AT tyre they do look a tad silly mine looks much better on 245 75 16's with a 0.3% difference in circumference so speedo is hardly out

I've got 255/65/17 AT2's fitted to mine, they looked huge getting them out the couriers van when they arrived, even the driver commented on the size, must admit I thought they were going to be a bit big, now they are on the car they do not look big or out of place, they certainly do not tramline or bumpsteer, as they got a good run up to the lakes and back on sunday/monday

Whilst I see what you're saying, the reason why I want to go big it firstly to get those stupid skinny tyres off my car, secondly, I need some height. I'm not kidding but my 90 is a joke sat next to another Landy. It sits about 4" lower than any other one and looks more like it's been lowered :(

I've got a 2" lift ready to go on, so the bigger tyres will fit inside, but I was looking round on the net and this Defender has a set of 265/75/16's on them and they're really not sticking out that much.

the more you lift it and the higher profile tyre the worse it will be on road, off road there is a middle ground between surface area and traction, get too much and when its muddy you get one hell of a lot of rolling resistance. Though sounds like you're more after looks than performance ;)

I need to see your wheels to make my mind up. It's not that I'm after 'looks' it just that my car is truly the base model and it seems everyone else got nice alloys/tyres/suspension when they got theirs :( I'm just making up for what didn't come as standard.

Most discos at a good level aren't on 265's mine makes a subtle difference on 245's have a look at a tyre comparison checker to see what difference it will make to your standard ones. My last L200 looked fine on 225's and that was upgraded from 205's and they were a common landy size which means relatively cheap, and certainly don't look like skinny tyres.

As a guide if your 205's are 75 profile then changing to 225/75 will give you a 15mm lift, 245/75 will give 30mm and 265/75 45mm the big difference is on road and also whether they will hit when on full lock. I found 245's a big improvement over the 265's I had before and it hasn't affected the economy, that is where in a defender you will really pay the price for big off road tyres you're more than welcome to have a look. If you're spending £600 on a set of BFG's its worth getting the right ones!!

I think they're actually 205/85. So what's the difference there?

I'll stick with your advice. It's hardly as if I'm going to go against the advice of someone who actually owned some 265s!

So 245's it is. Any tips on the rating I need to get?

not sure but realistically with the top speed of a defender you don't need to worry too much IMHO If they are at least Q rated so ok to 100mph that should be fine and really at 100 in a defender tyres are the least of your worries

they will raise it 10mm approx, have a look at some more defenders as a lot will be on 225's they will all look significantly different to 205's

Totally agree I have just fitted 225/75s envo agency fit them to there 130s perfect. Not being rude to some landrover owners but there just a toy and they like the look rather than the practical and correct useage of items and most seem to think bigger tyres improves there image .

Which it may well done to joe public to me it just says plonker .

I'm a big fan of the skinny tyres for off road / general use. On my defender I currently have 215/85/r16s that I ran on my Range rover classic. They are doing very well in the current weather, although being so narrow they do struggle a little on ice.

Going super big is generally not required unless you are really going through nasty stuff. I do find that the 31/32s are a little bit of a problem when going through deep ruts. But going up to 35's means re gearing the diffs, stronger halfshafts and cvs as well as the wheel arches and turning circle. It is a bit of a minefield and I'm undecided, may just stick with skinny 32s.

I've heard that some witner tyres now are getting pretty hard to find with demand through the roof. Saying that having run snow tyres since march I'm amazed how good they are in the snow and ice and that is on 265 width tyres.

Im in scotland phoning round with now joy, all the usual camskill etc just dont have them, i want the AT's as a friend just got them and is singing thier praises, it's more the stopping and turning grip they have as the disco 3 turns into a 3 ton sledge in this weather! can decide wether to try and get 255/60/18 or 255/65/18's??

Think i am looking around the £130 mark each from what the "out of stock" people are saying...
