Jono123
Hi, Can anyone suggest a good lamping kti please for a 22 LR rifle, for use with rabbits at night. I've heard good things about lightforce but they look huge. Are there any good LED compact versions which you can clip on to the rifle, to save carrying another battery around on your shoulder or backpack? Thanks,
ellebarto
Depends on your budget and at what distance you hope to be shooting at. Short range there are loads of led options of torch mounts etc very very cheap prices but thats all sub 50 yards at absolute best! In my opinion, anything more and you need a battery powered scope mounted lamp, I use a Deben lightforce which is nice and compact and lets me hit targets up to 100 yards but then I use that powered from my Landy. The next best but pricy option is one of the various laser lights you can buy but I have found the light form them to be too narrow for finding bunnies and you need something with a nice wide light diffussion to pick them up! Guest topshot_2k
The lightforce 140 is perfect, its very lightweight and i hardly notice it ontop of my scope (on .17hmr) Good range on the beam too

Guest topshot_2k
tracer mini pro with dimmer and red filter. out of interest why do you recommend red filter? I found unless you have been lamping the area a lot that no filter is best for range/showing up the rabbits/fox?

Greenhunter
Linky this looks nice but I have no experience of it.... hopefully someone will and put it on here  I've recently acquired one. Only been out a few times with it but it seems to do the job. The filter kit is probably only good for close stuff like rats as it shortens the beam too much. I would suggest that a good scope is needed to make picking out the target easier. Its light and easy to use, especially with the pressure switch attached to the fore-stock. stubby
I use a nightsearcher on my rimmy, still need battery, or plug in car, but small, made of ali, so very light, yet unbreakable, and a very good adjustable beam
malkiserow
tracer mini pro with dimmer and red filter. The pictures of the scope mount make the mounting system look feeble/difficult to adjust and liable to fall off. Just looks like a very simple clip with no adjustment. As no one said it is a problem I am guessing that it is better than it looks? What do you think?

What do you think? it is just a clip. there is a beam adjustment at the back of the lamp. i havent had any issues with it, but if you pushed it it would move. i was at the midland game fair and was looking at some of the new led torches and apparetnly they are going to make one that has a dimmer. its the dimmer that i personally think is essential. There have been rogue posts that they dont work in cold weather (that is the biggest load of horse manure that I have heard) I would quite happily shoot at centrefire ranges with one I find that they can spook rabbits close in but they do have a dimmer
