Shropshire_Lad
Hi, I use the 100 yd zero too and it works for the distances I shoot over. This is worth a look if you are interested in HMR, http://www.varmintal.com/17hmr.htm atvb Paul.
Dave-G
Looks like some of the other forums are down today. We've not had this one for at least a week. 100 yard zero for me too. The drop - relative to the scope - occurs from about 70 yards depending on scope height and barrel length: Relative to the barrel it begins soon after the bullet leaves the barrel. I'm sure others will enlarge on this. EDIT: I forgot the scope bit: Typically 30/30 type ret as the 100 yard zero is generally well up to point and shoot for 120 yards ish - simple and more than adequate for general hunting purposes. Colster
Agree with RM, I do mine at 40 yards and if space and time allows, check it at 100. It's pretty much flat between those two points although for a 10yard bunny you need to hold over as a mate of mine found to his cost the other night when 3 shots later the rabbit got bored and jumped back into the hedge. Dekers
Mine is zeroed for 100 because that suits the land and type of use I usually put my HMR to. There is a suggestion you get a wider useable range if zeroed for 125/126 yards, but that pre supposes most of your shots are a bit longer anyway! Scopes are personal, end of, ALL my scopes on all my rifles are Mil Dot!
