demonwolf444
just wondering i have seen a few people with what looks like a home made NV scope by puting a NV monocular mounted infront of a scope? am i right ? and this looks like the cheapest way of making a NV scope , unless im being a super noob, i certainly wont have the funds for atleast a year for NV scope as i have seen them for about the 2 grand mark though i read on the forum that someone found one on flee bay for 400 quid ? ive always been sceptical of fleebay
CZ550Kevlar
What you have probably seen is a cobra merlin with DSA (day scope adapter) clamps onto the eye piece of your regular scope and saves swapping scopes over, re zeroing and allows flexibility. they aren`t bad but really do need extra illumination either by lamp with filter or some kind of IR laser or led. steve_b_wales
I have a Cobra Merlin, which is used on my .243 and .22-250. Its an excellent bit of kit, and I will agree that it works much better with extra IR 'light'. For this, I have a scope mounted Blaserlite with IR filter. Using this set up allows me to cleary identify quarry up to 175+ yards. The good thing about the Cobra is that I can use it on any of my rifles. The downside is that it only works properly with parallax adjustable scopes. If you use it on a fixed parallax one, you won't be able to see the reticule of your scope clearly. I would certainly recommend one for rat, rabbit and fox shooting.

Luckyshot
ahhh appologies i didnt know there was a NV section :( FAIL ill find the picture but there is someone's set up that i saw that spurred the thought Tis is my setup which I use now and then mainly on the 22. Excellent results for close range although it can be used at greater distances, cost wise under £200 including laser second hand

demonwolf444
so if i found a cheap monocular ( only gonna be on a air rifle as a bit of a gimmik and if its any good, rabbits perhaps ?) made a mount that would connect it infront of the scope would this work? or do you specifically need a DSA to make it work ? if this isnt the case im not entirely sure i understand how it works :S i really appreciate this guys ! weejase
There`s a guy on the airgunbbs forum that made his own dsa adapter from a drill handle clamp and some plastic pipe The leapers ags swat scopes 3-12x44 and 4-16x56 are commonly used with the home made set up I was going to go with the cobra merlin set up but have now changed my mind and I`m now going to buy a pulsar gs challenger instead. The pulsar apparently has the edge on the cobra unit and Is only £280 with dsa and a 3 year warranty. Pulsar £280 Ags scope £120 N1000 laser ir £130 This should enable you to see out to 150-200 yards jase.

demonwolf444
many thanks guys, it was merely a matter of interest, if i can find a cheap one ill give makeing a dsa a go, and if it doesnt work then ill be happy because it seams i have a passion for making things that dont work if i got it working i doubt it would be anygood and just a bit of a gimmik, i would only be shooting rabbits with it anyway, and if i completely FAIL ive always got the good old lamp
