I had it last October(2009), worse symptom for me was the persistant painfull chesty cough..I was prescribed 500mg Co-codamol 2 x 4 times a day and confined to bed for 4 days. Take paracetomol or one of the stronger Migrane prescribed pain killers which are paracetomol based and available from the pharmacist or lempsip lemon Max I found was very good.( take care not to over dose the paracetomol ) Also make sure you drink plenty of fluids and I mean plenty. Fruit drinks rich in Vitamin C are best. Expect it to take about a 4 to 6 days to improve substantially and 3 - 4 weeks before you start to feel 100%. I must admit that It has appeared to give me some immunity this year( Touch wood) as Ive been surrounded by cold and flu victims for the last 10 weeks but not so much as a sniffle. Good luck.... Hope you recover soon,.

Supersonic
Agree with the above, I had it last September. Industrial strength Lemsips and lot's of fluids and vit C. Worst thing for me was the fever, sat in the garden at 3am in my pants trying to cool down  4 - 5 weeks recovery period and another couple of weeks before you feel chipper agin. And I believe that it does give some form of immunity. Nige
Daveo26
I had something horrific a few weeks back i was bad for the best part of a week. Then the best part of 2 weeks before i felt well Same advice as above mate, I drank pints and i mean pints of orange. I had a fever that made me hallucinate which was pretty frightning a minging headache and felt terrible. I went to get a pint of pop and when i got back to my sick bed i could see the outline of my head in sweat on the pillow. You'll be right for new year

reddan
Did the OP get better within the week and how bad did it get?? Why have you now got it? I had it over Christmas, fever and headache. my other half had it worse with lung pain continuing afterwards. She is on antibiotics now. Took me 4 dsys to feel well enough to get up and function. still feel a little weak. Dan

MM
i had 'the flu' before christmas. took about 1 week to get well enough to go back to work. coughing like a mutha . I have the issue of fevers more than anything. Worst one i had was 2 years ago, felt like i was trapped in a submarine, with all the pipes bursting. sounds odd, but when you are tripped out on temp, its a mad one

throbbingfinger
My Mrs has been Ill or weeks. She has had swine flu and now has pneumonia. Just got back from the hospital after waiting five hours to be seen. Got some strong antibiotics. Was talking to the doctor about the age groups affected most. She was saying out of all the people admitted an in total she has seen the age of most of them badly infected were in there 20's and 30's which has made me feel a little less immune to illness. John-B
I feel like i'm coming down with something, last night in bed i was aching all over, having hot and cold flushes, a quite bad thirst, had very little sleep and a pounding headache. Today I feel very weak still have the bad headache and also been sick a few times, just feel generally unwell. Hopefully get myself pulled round by tomorrow as I wont risk going into customers houses like this...
