unapalomablanca
Will full bodied flocked decoys get me better results than plastic shell decoys? I dont seem to be having much luck decoying and in all honesty most times i struggle to get any interest apart from harvest time, most of my numbers come from flighting. Can anyone help? Full bodied deeks will stand out more and be seen fro further however shells look like they are feeding and that reassures pigeons that there is something worth stopping for. I use a mixture of both. Shells on spring sticks on the ground with a few full bodied deeks at the head of the pattern and / or on lofting poles or sticks in the hedgerow. The key is to have movement to attract the pigeon's attention and then a good pattern to make them think food is available. You might be better getting a couple of Hyperflaps and floaters if you don't have any great movement in your pattern.

Movement plays a big part of decoying in many ways! First off, you must sit still. If the birds can see the decoys, they will see you moving in the hide, as your hide will be only about 35/40 yards from where they are going to land. However, they need a bit of movement to bring them in. I use a few of these in my pattern http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab130/TheEssexHunter/Essex%20Decoy%20Springs/STA60109.jpg. Do try and put you decoys out at good distance as birds will ‘over fly’ as the late great Archie Coats used to say. I have taken good advice from Peter Theobald and tried a few different things and they do work. TEH
