Thinking of treating myself to a Maxus

I've had a Maxus for a while now, and love it. I've shot pigeon and ducks/geese and wouldn't be without it now. I'm 6'2 and found it was too short and the comb too low, however with a little help from the local browning dealer sourced some extra spacers and another shim to raise the comb - all for £12.

It now has 4 x spacers and 2 x no.1 shims installed, still looks great and fits like a glove - the only problem is fitting it in the cabinet with the extended choke installed!

Definitely recommend it, although with regards to the cycling issue, I have experienced a jam with a 65mm cartridge (although it was a 21g Comp X which I was just trying out) I haven't tried a 65mm cart since, and now stick to 67mm 28g for clays.

Well I'm still leaning towards the Maxus as i have not really liked the feel of the extreme 2 or the a400 . But i really need to have a swing around with a maxus to make my mind up .

Does anyone know If the Maxus comes in different stock lengths ? I have seen the on guntrader with a 14" stock and others with 14 and 3/4" ? Is this just purely the difference the spacers make ?

Sorry, late to the thread, been on my travels again. I have a Pr Gr3 Maxus, bought it mid-summer last year - the stocks are all the same length and have spacers both for stock length and cast - out of the box new the stock is straight. I only shoot clays too. Rugby Gun Shop that supplied mine recommended putting a 250 slab of 28grm carts through to run it in and ever since I've used 24grm - either Eley VIPs or Fiocchi Golden Trap - no jams or anything - perfect.

I did buy a couple of Inv+ extended choke tubes (Modified & Skeet) just because they are easier to change. Overall I like the gun, the trigger pull is a bit heavier than my OU which is disconcerting at first but other than that a lovely piece of kit and beautifully engineered as well, the fore end is exquisitely made and feather light.

One thing to bear in mind is the length of the receiver - a 28" barrelled gun is roughly the same overall length as my 30" Ultra XS OU with extended choke tubes - so make sure whatever you buy fits in your cabinet....don't ask how I know this.......

Adding the 2nd No 1 shim, do you know how much this raised the comb by :hmm:

Currently I have a slim comb raiser fitted/stuck on, as I also found it a tad low

Just out of interest which do you prefer to shoot with - ultra xs or maxus? I only ask because I have an xs too which I love...just fancy a lighter s/a for knocking down the pigeons.

i have a maxus and to be honest it was the best thing i ever got :good: , i wanted a gun for the field and this gun is bulit proof. i have fired over 500 shells before cleaning and it was still cycling well :hmm: . it does not matter what cartridge i use as they all cycle the action  . it is steel proof and will take all the weather that you can throw at it. i am one of those people that cant always clean my gun when i come home because of work comitments so i give it a quick spray and in the locker it goes. when i pick it up next time, i know the maxus will not let me down. this is my opinion and nothing will change it. kev :shoot:

Sporting clays - Ultra XS every time, no question - it's just so predicatable (same for you too I'm sure), for Skeet the lightness of the Maxus feels advantageous - it seems more 'whippy' for chasing the simo pairs.
