Devon Fox
Hi All. I have to tell everyone as I am excited I have been a driving instructor for the last 5 Years, and things have been really tough work wise, I have gone from being really stupidly busy, too working 10 - 15 hours a week, which has led to me being on here far too much . This job for me in My area just isnt sustainable and the future isnt looking so bright for the industry as a whole, lots of people falling into the job after redundancies etc and being lured by the £30k promises (which is a crock by the way!) and prices being driven down (excuse the pun!) I was accepted into the Police after passing My entrance tests, only to recieve a letter - due to lack of funding etc - binned basically. So I applied to the South West Abulance Trust last Year to become an ACA, Thanks to Gloker and all His excellent help and advice via PM's I have passed all my assesments and driving tests and recieved a letter this Morning confirming that I have got the job!!!! It is bitter sweet, I am now in a "pool" and have to sit tight for a position to open in my area. The thing that has drawn me in is the future prospects and hopefully I can push on up the ladder and become a student paramedic. Sorry - Just have to tell the World. Again a big thanks to Gloker, A really Top lad who has given me lots of time Thanks all.

Devon Fox
Thanks Scully - Thats the thing that impressed most when I was in Derriford, they retain staff and only lose 3/4%, most move on up the ladder

Red 9R
Congrats, it's good that some areas are still taking on, here you have to secure a place as a student paramedic and they just don't come up that often, no more working your way up Well done and I hope you don't have to wait to long

rob4586
Congrats. What's an ACA? Ambulance Care Assistants (ACA), transport non-emergency patients to and from hospital for pre-arranged appointments
Devon Fox
Congrats, it's good that some areas are still taking on, here you have to secure a place as a student paramedic and they just don't come up that often, no more working your way up Well done and I hope you don't have to wait to long Thats a shame - the guys who interviewed said that the process is slower because of graduates entering the system, and that they are the group who are most likely to leave. They said that SWAST are very good and there is a more than fair chance of climbing. I could kick Myself because Gloker did push me to apply for a student paramedic role straight away, as they were taking on at the same time - but I didnt feel confident enough, although in the interview they said they did not understand why I didnt apply, wish I had - but wasnt confident enough, they had a 1000 applicants for student paramedics, and on my assesment that had been cut too 250. Apparently the system is going to be overhauled, and running 24/7 - and the job will become more than medical transport to help take the strain, but that is all I know at the moment. Thanks for the good wishes!
