Teal
Ah yes I forgot to add, when I was there I enquired about the pigeon shooting (you have to) as there are an abundance of pigeons in the area and the farm (including FBT's) is over 1000 hectares, but he already has regular shooters and is not letting any more onto the ground. Dirty Harry
We have visited Cotswold farm park quite a few times and this is where the rare breeds stuff is based. It's a really good day out for the kids even though we live on a farm they still love going there. Whenever I have been it is always busy and I imagine this provides quite an income as would the BBC fees. I have met him and he seems a very genuine nice bloke and I can't understand why people are having a go at him.
shaun4860
Now i know where Adams farm is as well as Jimmys' farm, now all i need to do is find out where hughs' cottage is It started out originally a game-keeper's lodge in the grounds of Slape Manor, Netherbury, Dorset. His farm is situated in bridport, a semi- costal town down south. Shaun (font of all google knowledge)
Clubshot
He is effectively a farm manager rather than sole employee hence he gets the time for countryfile, being a presenter is in itself a form of diversification. I know farmers who do similar jobs round their own farms so it isn't impossible. I wouldn't say its detached from real life as its made perfectly clear which are animals reared for meat and the bits on TB don't say nothing is slaughtered and shows that side as well as any other programme on the beeb Missed this Sunday's But Sure He has Stated and spoke before of Farm / Estate having a Estate Manager Due to his other activities Aware of some Farmers that have issues with anything being shot on their land Various reasons Used to Shoot pigeons on land, where they often use to go and hide on unshot land Joy's of Cheap Firework Rockets And good supply of old lead goose Rounds BOB/R
Cookiemonsterandmerlin.
I know this maybe hard some to belive on this forum but just because I or others make comments on threads REF others knowledge ETC. Does not mean we know little of the background that is why some but not all forms opinions on subjects and post valid replies to threads because that we or I have had knowledge of the subject to form a opinion on said subject. EG I worked on a farm I was milking cows from a young age, and then went on to running a 1000 acre arable farm before I was 25 years old. So my comments are spoken with knowledge not out of my backside,PS have been to farm . Cheers OTH Edited because of my poor english Edited February 7, 2011 by Over the hill
Boromir
I used to work for dominoes pizza and had a delivery to the ramada hotel in Ayr, guess who it was for? It was for Adam and his camara crew or something anyway a good five large pizzas and sideorders. He didn't even say hello and gave no tip not a penny and gave a look at me as if he was better than me. So he is not as nice as you think he would be. And how can he run a farm when he spends so much time away from it. And you notice he gets a new apprentice basically every 3 episodes

Although hes not too keen on Scottish Pizza delivery boys. He runs the farm originally tennanted by his Dad, went to Agricultural College and got his diploma and Has a Business Partner who helps run the farm Business. Its mainly Sheep these days. His father started the rare breeds farm in the early 70,s and its gone from strength to strength. The animals have been used in major films and TV for many years. Adams Father infact was also a TV presenter on a countryside programme with Phil Drabble..This is probably where he got the opportunity from to do TV work. As for "Play" farming.....so what if theres someone employed to do the work..why not get out and advertise the farm and rare breeds park on the national Audience... He would be a bloody fool not to.... and he is anything but that. Edited February 7, 2011 by Fisherman Mike
Piebob
He was just following the Scottish tradition....When in Rome do as the Romans and all that It's clear to see you know little about Scottish tradition. It should have been a chippy and there should have been none of the silent treatment, more like told to **** off! Next time you're in Glasgow, I'd recommend you try it. You'll probably get a Glasgow smile........

I must say I would be suprised to find such a cultural Icon and epicurian centre of mediteranian delights as Pizza hut or Dominos in Glasgow....I would have thought a spudulike or chippy more appropriate.... Ive had a Glasgow kiss from a rangers fan once in my wayward youth...is that the same thing?? Luckily I saw it coming and he burst his nose on the top of my head...Dont know why he did it I was just getting out of taxi....I think copious amounts of Alcohol were involved and we all know that Glaswegians and Alcohol are a lethal combination. Diceman
Well, I met Adam at a conference the other day so I now feel qualified to share my opinions. He came across as a very genuine, decent bloke, not at all arrogant, in fact quite the opposite. He does have a real passion for farming and is very keen to use his 'fame' to help boost public perceptions of the industry, especially by encouraging kids to connect with the origins of their food. He knows that Countryfile is too sanitised at times, and is trying to change that where he can but is up against the might of the BBC and the bunny huggers. He implied that he has forced some changes in the scripts on occasion when he felt that some aspects of farming have been misrepresented. He was very diplomatic when asked his opinion on the proposed badger culls, but told us that the last report he did about a new vaccine that has been developed which should make it possible to immunise cattle legally prompted dozens of abusive letters, including death threats, from badger lovers - even though he never mentioned culling at any point in the report! Reading between the lines I don't think he is a big fan of the "anti". He took over the tenancy of the farm, which is mixed arable and livestock, from his father, along with a partner who is a friend from Seale Hayne Ag College, and who looks after the day to day running of the business whilst he is doing the telly stuff. His father started the rare breeds collection and opened the farm park in the 60s when he realised they weren't making him any money. Long before Countryfile they were supplying animals for Film / TV and advertising. He was talked into applying for the Countryfile job by his girlfriend, who made the video for his application. Up until then he was a full time farmer and still gets his hands dirty when not filming. If he is not a "proper" farmer then he was doing a damn good impression of one when answering a lot of questions from the floor from a room full of people who know the industry backwards. I thought he was a nice guy. Good luck to him.
