problem with closeing eye on clays

Not that it helps but I have to close my left eye, my pupil isn't in the centre of my iris in my right so can't shoot with both eyes open. I don't do too badly, I was told to track with both eyes open to try and gauge distance then close my left at the point of pulling the trigger.

Same as. Not the pupil bit but been instructed to use both eyes to locate/pick up and then close left eye.

Not that it helped much yesterday. I blame the wind blowing the lead and clays apart :whistling:

It was hilarious yesterday, the amount time the clays just took off, upwards, downwards just as people pulled the trigger, best day of clay I've had for ever!

Many competitions have been won with shooters who close one eye, Just DON'T do what my old man did the other week and closed the WRONG eye!! I guess that explained his 10ft extra lead lol.

You can get eye dominance patches or one of those 'easyhit' optic fibre beads which may help. I too also shoot both eyes open and then close left to take shot but I have to be carefull that I don't concentrate on the bead(a BIG no no)

just got myself into bad habbit even when i look in mirror with gun i close my eye

Are you still hitting your target with one eye shut?? If the answers 'yes', i dont see a problem. I close one eye just before the shot after 'tracking' the target with both open. Works for me. :good:

Shutting the "off eye" isn't a problem as long as you can read distance, speed and line without your binocular vision.

Not naming names but more than a few top shots in many disciplines do it and one in particular only has one eye anyway.

It will generally do less harm to your accuracy than having an off master eye and keeping it open.

My gut feeling is you may have an off master eye and have subconsciously developed this habit to overcome it. If it works, leave well alone.
