redshrimp
finally managed a photo. Any ideas? Lead bars go in the top tube and gas blowtorch in the front tube. When lead melts it drips out of three drippers and down the chute into coolant.
Floating Chamber
Lead bars go in the top tube and gas blowtorch in the front tube. When lead melts it drips out of three drippers and down the chute into coolant. I can see roughly how it works; it is not a Silver Stream - it's too sophisticated! It is not a Francis or a Shotmster either! Gawd knows! Edited February 13, 2011 by Floating Chamber
redshrimp
Think this the patent for it. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4274819.pdf
fortune
An interesting old shot maker. I cant see from the picture but isn’t that some sort of name plate on the tank side? Sometimes I have to identify odd parts where the inscription cant be read and I find that sometimes various liquids >> Water. Petrol. White spirit, Oil or graphite dust will bring up the writing. I also find that shining a light from various angles in a dark and light over light will also show up. Sometimes odd letters will show by one method and others by a different method and a picture can be built up or a good guess can be made. This shot maker is a bit different to others that I have seen and I would be interested to see a picture of the dripper hole and chute length area and the size of the holes. fortune
Think this the patent for it. http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4274819.pdf Well that's as good as it gets. I wonder how well it worked.
Floating Chamber
I thought it was a 'nameplate'. It's a variation on an old theme. As Fred Francis (the God of Shotmaking) always said, 'It does to pass it through a flame before quenching'. He was talking about the 'Gem' on the Francis Clubman special. redshrimp
Not a name plate, just a warning to let top cool before removing.
