Met up with .17 Hummer last night for a spot of Foxing with his 6.5 ;)

So off we went to the golf course and after a couple of bunnies on the first one (with my .17HMR)we hopped the fence to the one next door and as we came up the valley there he was on the bank at least 200 yards away B) .

Dan dropped down onto his bi pods to have look see through his scope and the little ****** decided to take off :/ but only to stop about 20 yards further on

and BANG!!!(the 6.5s unmoderated at the moment :D B) )

(Sorry about the pics camera phone)

We found him collapsed with a massive smoking hole under his chin WOW what a wound ;);) that 6.5 sure does the job :)

With Dan grinning from ear to ear we trugged a 1/2mile back to the motors with Dan lugging charlie for the photo shoot ;);)

On the way to a job this morning i had to pass the golf club so i popped in and pinged the distance and it happened to be a whopping 247 yards!!!!

I now have a major case of the i wants :D:D

Yes, the 6.5 can be loud without mod. :D

Well done, cracking fox :);) , great shooting too. :D

Thats some distance. ;):D

What make of rifle is it?

its a sporterised m98 by kimber with a synthetic stock. its also got a pachmyer pad as because its so light, she has got a kick, especially when prone.and yes i think ill get a moderator for lamping even if its just to save sussex lads hearing ;) the round was a140grn federal classic.

ive definately got the fox bug now so the rabbits might get a bit of a rest

the scope is a 6x42 doctor optic ( fantastic scope)

How did you manage to get the 6.5 for foxing?? ;)

the same way everyone else has ;)

ask for it :)

6.5 is the largest round that Plod is advised to grant for Fox control as a seperate condition (not to say larger cant be granted)

6.5 is a great round for foxes, its what i use the most on them. very destructive, but thats not a problem its just humaine. Quite flat shooting with the 95grain B-T ;) Also deadly accurate

Hummer, that was good shot on a smallish target with 6x scope, how much do hold over at that range, the one thing I will say about federal 140's is the drop pretty quickly (4.5" already at 200 yards if you use 100 yard zero)

I thought the same thing me self. Prehaps hummer has an explaination. :)

i would assume fox and deer as a seperate condition (otherwise you cant lamp)

my dads load is 95grain nosler BT, Vit N160, Lapua brass, Fed. 210 primers (i think its 210 - i'm awful with numbers)

they shoot better than either of us can shoot, mashed 1/4"ers if you take your time. (vertical stringing from barrel heat is a slight issue, still 5 shots would keep inside half an inch)

no explanation needed really. even though it was too dark to use the range finder it was obviously a long shot , but i have shot the 6.5 for over 15yrs and shot over 300 wild boar and scores of roos and the odd goat. the combo is spot on for 150yds and i held what i thought would be an inch or so above his eye.

the round hit himon his jaw hinge and caused devastating damage. there was a breeze from left to right about 5miles an hour. i would never take a shot on a live animal that i was not positive, would end its life.

i would not have attempted that shot with a 222 or hmr (too far) at night but felt confident with the 6.5. in answer to the ticket question, my certificate says "the cert holder may posses, purchase , or aquire expanding ammunition, in calibres authorised by this cert and use only in connection with the shooting of vermin or in connection with the management any estate, wildlife." ;)

ps sussex lad went back this am with his rangefinder and measured it.

250yds ......impressive ............a good lamp and a good scope are obviously at work here amongst other things

Is the 6.5 flat shooting Dan or are you zero'd around 200yds ?

Ive

having a good bit of glass on top of your rifle is also a must. the scope is a doctor optic 6x42. not huge magnification but when the lenses are that quality it really makes a difference to your shooting. on my hummer i have a tasco 24x50 but at night the doctors optics really make a difference and the clarity really shows. not that the tasco is a bad scope, far from it, but at night magnification can be a hinderance.

also sussex lad is an infinately more experienced lamper than i and your shot is only as good as the bloke holding the lamp :)

I don't think that qualifies for you to shoot fox. :*) Your ticket should read: The Firearm and ammunition shall be used for Fox and Deer.

The firearm being the main element for what you can and cannot shoot.

My tickets states the same as yours for the ammo, but not the Firearm.

My .22 is for shooting Vermin & Ground game and zeroing on land where i have permission

My .222 is for Shooting fox and Deer.

My .270 is for shooting Deer.

Not having a go or anything, just don't want you to be on the wrong side of the LAW ;)
