Ooooh! Unlucky!

Once went to a RTC where a guy had just arrived home from the dealers in his brand new car. He loaded it up with holiday stuff intending to drive to Devon, and as he turned out of his drive he put his hand through the steering wheel to zero the odo' he trapped his hand as the steering wheel centred and the car did a U Turn into his own wall. 6 miles on the clock!

When working in various main motorcycle dealers I have seen many customers get on their new & shiny steeds only to spoon them within yards, the record was approx 15 feet, that being the distance needed to get from the shop door to the road. The record for a write off was 125 yards, shop to nearest roundabout.

Had a job in a Merc dealers once and on ramp was brand new SLK or similar - the guy took it round an island and lost it - nearside rear wheel hit kerb - bent all rear suspension - good thing for mechanics all the exhaust bolts were still clean an shiny - everything underneath had to come off - Still the guy could afford it he owned a big cold food store.

Another one was years ago and this driver pulled up at a zebra crossing in a brand new Morris 1100 and he was shunted by another older but mint 1100.

A mate even earlier bought one of the first Honda 4's but before it was delivered he came off his old bike and broke a leg - when honda came he put it in garage and backed a car up to it - went to have a look at it a few weeks late - Gone - not even insured and on HP.

The we picked up wifes Mazda 2 two years ago - did 20 miles and bang - big stone hit windscreen putting a star on it - too close to top edge to be repaired - Windscreen guy said leave it till a crack comes down screen - sold it last month and still no crack

One thing to be said about buying a banger.

I thought that if the car was less than a year old the insurance would simply replace it-if the accident is recorded against the car surely you will lose even more off the value of the car than you do in its first year?

If it's a write-off or stolen and not recovered then yes they will replace with new. But not for any accident
