Birky
Hi all i was over at swillington gun shop to day and had a quick look at the semi auto range. The berreta, wincheter, Hatsan and mant more that i forget the names, so which gun if i decide to purchase one would you guys surgest. And then do i go for 28" or 30", it will be primarily for pigeon but once the season starts up again i wouldnt mind trying wildfoul. So what do ya think. Gordon R
Almost impossible for members to give a definitive opinion. It depends on your budget, build, shooting experience and a whole lot more. The gun fit of all are different. Do you want cheap? Reliability? Handling qualities? Plentiful spares? Warranty? New or second hand?
BerettaSV10
I think there are a couple of threads going on at the moment about which auto is best for this or that, that could be worth looking at. Do you have a set budget for the gun or are you open to any reasonable budget. One thing to take iinto account about barrell length is that a 28" semi auto barrell is equivalent to a 30" o/u barrell, so you may find tha a 30" semi auto barrell is to long for what you want. One gun that that will always crop up is the Hatsan escort, which is what one might call a marmite gun, you either love them or hate them. Another one is the beretta range of semi autos as these are good guns and you can get them second hand for a good price (would be one of my choices). I personally like the Bennelli's athough I only shoot clays at the moment. Edited March 19, 2011 by BerettaSV10

I have to agree on the marmite gun, but i LOVE mine eventhough i dont like marmite  Loads of people say that how terrible they are and the rest say how great they are. The Escort Magnum is Definitely a gun to consider if you'r buying on a budget, but buy new as you get the 3 yr warrenty, eventhough this i bought a second hand one and i love it as i said ;) If youve got £1000+ to spent get some thing that you like and fit's most importantly, Personally if i had that sort of money to spend i would either go for a Benelli M2 or Raffaello or Montefeltro, Browning Maxus, Beretta A400, Winchester SX3. But that's my personal choice
mfletch
All depends on your budget Benelli is my first suggestion followed by Beretta
Birky
The budget i had in mind was £1000 eather way im really the sort of person that likes to buy reliability. My experience with regards semi's is vertualy none i have 2 o/u Wincher and a miroku. What i do find intresting is a 28" semi auto barrell is equivalent to a 30" o/u barrell, i didnt know that. RAMMER BURT
a Beretta A400 gets my vote
BerettaSV10
With that sort of budget it would be a benelli as my choice. I managed to pick a crio up as new (only been fired twice) for just over £1100 there is plenty of choice and prices going on the Benelli's. I found the Benelli crio to fit me well and handling was a pleasure, its light and easy to follow through and trck targets, mine also cycles what ever I put through it even down to 21G cartridges. I normally use a 30" barrell in o/u, but looking at the s/a I use a 28" barrel. The best way I can describe why a 28" semi is equiv to a 30" o/u is the action on a o/u is behind the trigger while the action on a semi is forward of the trigger which then pushes the breech forward as well, thus making the barrel appear to be about 2" longer. trentotter
the sx3 is a brilliant gun,ive put alsorts of diferant loads through mine and its never failed... and another thing is,my 28" barreled version is about an inch and a half longer than a silver pigeon 30". so they are a bit longer than an o/u.......... Not quite sure how you are equating the two, simple fact is a 28" barrel is a 28" barrel on whatever shotgun it is on. Semis tend to be longer overall simply because of the size of the action, therefore a 28" semi is likely to be around the overall length of a 30" O/U, but with 3" and 3.5" chambers it could be heading towards a 32" barrel overall length! Mike525steel
i like the brownings (fusions and maxus not fussy on the pheonix) personally but i have shot quite a bit through an SX3 and loved it its got a nice feel on the loading front. its fairly priced gun and its a browning at heart. i like the 30" barrels i feel it makes them more pointable especially if you like shooting the odd round of clays.
