psych4shooting
I am conducting some more research this year with clay shooters, just completed some on trap shooters, but looking for topics that clay shooters want to be researched. You might also want to get a copy of my latest Clay Shooting Psychology handbook by going to www.clayshootingsuccess.co.uk. But please place some topics here so we can do the research and also involve some of you. Thanks Phil Coley from Clay Shooting Success, the clay shooting sports science team. psych4shooting
yes son of, so plenty of years of clay shooting experience - he is a happy man in Sydney at the moment, two World Cups in 3 weeks - 2 quota places, a Gold Medal this morning and a Silver in Chile, so GB has 2 places for 2012 already in Double Trap. psych4shooting
More than happy to say what I do, and a offer of a free book for clay shooters is hardly an advert, anyway nice to find a forum with fellow clay shooters & hopefully I can get some great research done with the help of some, so we have even more information on the mental aspects of the sport. PhilR
Hello Phil, I remember you coming up to EYGC to our BICTSF trap shooting training days with your dad and Joe Neville probably back in the mid to late 90's when you had just started at uni. Last time I saw your dad was back in January when he was hosting one his pheasant shoots at Stanway, near Broadway. Regards, PhilR

psych4shooting
Hi Phil, yes that is when it all started, done a huge amount of research since then. Dad is good - he is on cloud 9 right now after Richard winning in Australia, plus another quota place into the bargain. Hopefully see you on the circuit this year. Catamong
Regards, PhilR I bought my first O/U from Ian Coley at his shop in Cheltenham many, many years ago.. I also used to frequent the mount Pub, near Stanway, they used to do a lovely Ploughmans. Here are some topics for discussion: * Gun fit, absolutely essential to make sure the gun fits you and shoots where you think it's shooting. * Physical fitness, the trend nowadays is towards bigger, heavier guns, how many shooters are letting the gun control them, rather than the other way around. My performance certainly improves if I work on upper body strength. * Flinching, affects everybody from time to time, what causes it, how can you eliminate it? * Lack of confidence, how often do guys talk themselves out of a good score, positive thinking is a must? Good performance in shooting is all about getting the mental bit right, but it can be difficult for some, once the self doubt sets in. Cat. psych4shooting
Gloucestershire is a lovely place. My Dad now has moved his gunshop to his shooting school just outside of Cheltenham, so everything in one place now www.iancoley.co.uk. I will certainly cover off the topics you mention I have only added this morning an article on Confidence. I am doing more work on trigger freeze (bit topic). Could not agree more on gun fit, certainly worth the money to get your gun fitted by a good coach/Gunsmith. Not sure how this Forum works yet in terms of interesting articles, happy to post articles on the subjects. But in the meantime have a look at the website www.clayshootingsuccess.co.uk. Thanks Phil
Dustem Dave
Yes i think you,ll get a massive response to the trigger freeze and flinching,it,s so common in competition, and soul distroying when it happens to you!

psych4shooting
Trigger freeze research has started, forms being sent out to those shooters volunteering to help with the research, also looking at the impact that recoil plays too and prevention measures if there is a link. The study will take about 6 months to come up with actual results, and then some recommendations and views on this too. Thanks for those that have mailed me offering to be part of the study.
