Are they a nuisance on farms etc? Sorry for the vague post shot this one on Saturday. I was out rough shooting and spotted it in difficulty (appeared to have a back leg problem) moving along a bank opposite me so decided to shoot it. It was covered in ticks on the back of its head. First time I have seen one so I was quite interested in the lifestyle and habits of them?

Thought it was one of the two difference I have found online is the Stoat has the black tipped tail.

blcck tipped tail gives it away

weasels usually slimmer aswell

they can be a nuisance aroiund poultry farms

and when poults get put in release pens

they will take eggs from any nest they find

usually on the ground...have caught them in pheasant, partridge, lapwing and blackbird nests

we have quite alot around 1 place i shoot

personally i dont shoot them (keeper traps plenty!), they are quite amazing creatures to watch

rats and stoats are worst enemies in the wild

same as ferrets/polecats in the wild

stoats usually win it though

they are tough little creatures

have witnessed 1 drag a nearly fully grown rabbit a couple fo metres to a hole, atleast 4times its own weight

It looks pretty healthy to me saying that you said it had a bad leg and was full of ticks  they eat rabbits and rodents mostly so they aren't considered as pests, although they will take small birds ocasionally. I would have let it take its chances with or without a gimpy leg.
