Dunkield
I have (again) been toying with the idea of a s/a having written off Beretta's on cost grounds. I have just had a look at the Stoeger 2000, which seems to be based on the Benelli system, has anyone got one? tried one?
Lord Geordie
Hatsan do a BRAND NEW escort 3" Magnum version in camo and i paid £295 new. Add a further £25 for decent chokes and your sorted 3 year warranty if owt goes wrong LG
lanber1088
Anyone who wants a very nice auto give Blackthourn a call, he has a Beretta 391 lovely gun.
coupe312
whats the ecsort like? i know i'm not going to get browning build quality but is it field safe
Lord Geordie
Some people say you get what you pay for. I like the escort very much it does what ir says on the tin Build quality seems ok as i say MY only issue was the Chokes were naff but i managed to fix that. Cycles fine with game carts but didn't like the 28g loads but hey it's early days and it hasn't worn in yet. On a scale of 1 to 10 i would say a respectable 8 Well happy and as i say a 3 year warranty means after 2 years i can sell it on with warranty left and buy another one  LG
kdubya
I will put in another shout for the A391 mine is used and abused gets bashed (forend is cracked) never gets cleaned yeah I know? but after 3 years of heavy use (I even used it for clays when it still looked nice) and a good few thousands of rounds through it I reckon I have had about 3 jams last one was down to mud that had dried on a previously dropped cart? I know when this one finally expires I will get a new one the same day! cheers KW
Fenlander
One word of advice BERETTA! if you dont want to stretch to a 391,go for an old 303 you could get a good one for £300 and it will spit out 28gram shells for fun! last for years and hold its money, one thing i've learnt in life is to buy quality, its better to buy quality second hand ,than cheap new, weather its guns, fishing tackle or cars, no offence to any one intended, just my oppinion, and only worth as much as anothers. All the best Mick.

coupe312
although i see what you saying second hand you get more gun for your money i'm not a berretta fan, and i know browning semi's aren't that good
MC
I very nearly bought an Escort to use for wildfowling, It was only that the stock was very short I didn't buy one. I boughta Baikal and had nothing but problems with it. I exchanged for a Beretta Xtrema and have not looked back. From what I understand the Escort is a very good gun. The chances are that it won't be as refined as a beretta, and will take some time to settle in. My Xtrema cycled 24g cartridges from the start. Lord Geordie
I think the prob with mine is it's a 3 and 1/2 inch magnum chamber so will be best with heavier loads instead of clay pigeon rounds. The stocks on the Escorts are adjustable too you can raise them drop them and add a thicker pad to extend them too. LG
MC
I needed to extend it by about 2". Nice gun other than that Cheers Martin
Dunkield
I agree with Martin, the only escort I have tried would need at least 2" on the butt to fit me. So, no good for gun down or quick shooting i.e. pigeons! I wouldn't fancy a secondhand semi unless it was mint or low milage, I have seen way too many people cussing their jammed semi's at clay shoots with everyone tutting behind :*) I also don't want to cough up 391 money for a new one - if it was my only shotgun that wouldn't be an issue but this will be an additional shotgun, I already have 2 O/Us. So that is why i was asking about the 'middle order' if you like, looks like Franchi or Benelli maybe Hmmm....
Lord Geordie
As i say i only know they do a Set of collars to fit between the stock and action and of course you can get a but pad but i dont thinik a 2" but pad is a feasable option  LG Edited March 24, 2006 by Lord Geordie
DaveK
Speak to MarkBivvy about his Browning B80. The price he's after for it is a steal. I've already got one otherwise i'd have maybe gone for it. Lord Geordie
If i had known i would have taken the money down with me for the Browning when i went for the swap I have EVERYTHING browning but the Gun A bit miffed but there you go  LG
coupe312
cheers lads, some fodder to think on. i think the escort sounds a idea, but might go for the browning though  . what the browning like for cycling? i heard they are poor, but that was off a "berretta man"
Lord Geordie
Can i just add the Escort is proofed for Steel shot and if wildfowling this is a MUST. LG
Mungler
Anyone had a go with / got a view on the new Benelli comfort range? I am a bit of a lady when it comes to kick back.
Hodmedod.one
Nobody has mentioned a Remington 11-87 so far. I have never had a single problem with mine. I bought it secondhand. I completely stripped and cleaned it and fitted a new "O" ring on the piston. It cycles perfectly on whatever cartridges I feed it. I do clean it regularly. Axe
Fortunately I got a good deal on a Beretta Urika AL-391, it puts a smile on my face everytime it comes out to play. She cycles a dream and fires as quick as you can say BANG! BANG! BANG! You will never regret the investment.
