southeastpete
Hey, just thought id share my good news. was driving through the countryside near home tonight, and saw dozens and dozens of rabbits in some horsey fields. I thought i'd pop to the house i figured owned the fields and ask for permission. I asked if he had someone doing pest control, he said he did, but gave me permission anyway (really didnt look like his other shooter was up to much). He grows feed crops like hay, and rents out paddocks. I saw 2 rabbits that i really had to look at them to be sure they werent hares. Lots of meat, but probably tough as old boots Im going to go to all the horsey places near me now and try for permission. Even if 1in 10 says yes, thats alot of bunnies to have a chance at. Now i just have to wait for my silenced .410 to arrive and i'll get on alot better than with the air rifle. i beleive the hushpower .410 was once stubby's from on here and then stefnc's. Hopefully i'll have some luck with it. cheers pete
Dave-G
Good for you mate but I'd have thought an air rifle better round horses mate.
Frenchieboy
When so many shooters 9Particularly new shooters) are complaining that new permissions are as rare as rocking horse doo doos it's always refreshing to read posts like this. Well done mate, it goes to show that the permissions are there if only you are prepared to get up off your back sides and knock on the doors and ask politely and properly! southeastpete
cheers guys. I sometimes use an air rifle as well, but its a bsa springer. unfortunately ive been out of work due to a boss who couldnt keep his mouth shut, so he lost a contract and all his workers are now out of work... But anyway back on topic, so a decent pcp is just out of reach on budget. i know 410 ammo is a bit steep, but i have a nice voucher for the local shooting shop. the .410 hushpower is meant to be quiet as an air rifle, so the sound shouldnt bother them, and safety wise i'd never shoot within a generous safety margin of someones horse, basc insurance or not... If the raf could trust me with a grenade launcher or gpmg, i think i can trust myself with a 410 around horses lol
Catamong
cheers guys. unfortunately ive been out of work due to a boss who couldnt keep his mouth shut, so he lost a contract and all his workers are now out of work... This sounds like the story line out of Corrie, you didn't work at Underworld by any chance..?? Also I think you'll find that the noise from your Hushpower .410 is a heck of a lot louder than any airgun, if mine was anything to go by, they still make one hell of a crack, and the moderators on secondhand versions are frequently pretty worn out.....try before you buy..?? southeastpete
lol, no, putting in gas pipes. will have to see about the noise level. hope its not unacceptable.
Highlander
Horsey people can be the worst types where shooting is concerned. A tip; whenever you plan to go out after them thar rabbits give the horse owner/s a call and ask them to stable the critters for the night. Saves a lot of complaints in the long run. stubby
i beleive the hushpower .410 was once stubby's from on here and then stefnc's. is it a pedretti? as thats the only hushpower 410 Ive ever sold on, if so, pm me and were see via serial numbers, as long as you use eley fibre wad, sub sonics, then in open areas, they are very quite, the minute you go near walls/units/houses etc, you'll hear it as louder as its the echo bouncing from solid surfaces in the open Ive used them 30ft away from people that havent batted an eyelid... but Id still prefer to use rimfire on the bunnies
