WGD
Funny that the most common line coincides with the kennel that record one of the best selling retriever training DVDs
cracker
Funny that the most common line coincides with the kennel that record one of the best selling retriever training DVDs You should see how it stacks up on this side, WGD. Do a search on "Gentleman's Gundogs" (what a crock of :yp: [hooey]). At least the Halsteads have the bonafides. All the Yank counterpart's got is blarney and barracking of other retrievers. Spaniel
Regardless of what Lines you choose, its all still down to the training and time you put into a dog. so no particular lines for me just a good pedigree and plenty of time and patience I should of also added that a top breeder and judge in Ireland once told me, that although we all try to get the best pup we can no pup come with a FTW or FTCH stamp he was so right Edited April 28, 2011 by Spaniel

cracker
Jeez... wish I could buy one of those ready made dogs over here  They and another porkies purveyor have got some racket going with their "pre-trained" (ready-made) pups. The dams and sires are usually imported FTChs or FTWs, obviously already trained, but these marketeers' schtick is that the pups' genetics enable them to do the same the instant they leave the whelping box. Gold-plated whelping box, I should say. Nice pups at not too nice a price - not to mention the prevaricating behind how they're sold. Of course, that's why there's free enterprise, mindful one must take into account that these good ol' boys got themselves a monopoly on exaggerated claims. adam_r
I do prefer the smaller lab, compared to that of, say a show line... I'm led to believe that the working lines tend to be smaller and have a better defined head and neck ?
Tam
That's cause if the Muppet thought he was up for rehoming Tam, you wouldn't catch him There can only be one "Magic Muppet" any dog that can haul a Canada Goose up a 9 foot near vertical sea wall will do for me :P

Which I think I'm finally getting to , I was just reading the threads and saw drakeshead and wondered what it was and checked the dogs papers. I didn't realise how well known the line was. That would explain his fast learning ability and extreme cleverness in tricking me I'm starting to understand how to go forward with him which is strangely satisfying when you take those small steps to the bigger picture:good:.
