Glensman
Well PW, I have a sister in America so I'm thinking of having a re-loading press sent home as a 'gift'. I would likely order from MidwayUSA as I've ordered from them before. If you were ordering from MidwayUSA- what would you order? I have never re-loaded and don't want to overspend or on the other hand buy ****. I want to re-load 2 calibres; .223 and .270 I have brass for both so I may as well make a dive... I think I would prefer a single stage press rather than progressive? and I would want the dies and all...
Mr_Logic
lee turret press is reasonably cheap to start you off. then a turret for each set of dies - 223 and 270. you also need scales, funnel and powder thrower. the lee stuff is OK to start with, redding is a lot better though. i have most of the lee stuff I would now part with, having very gradually replaced with Redding... I'm a buy once type of guy so I would probably try to start with a middle of the range-good brand... I would be going halves with Ollie so cost wont be Too much to bare. Saying that though, If you want to PM me the Lee stuff you have for sale and prices i'd be happy to consider it...
Glensman
This will seem silly- but, what's the difference in a 2-die set and a 3-die set?
phaedra1106
If you're buying from the US I'd use Titan or the 4Sportsmen (on US Ebay) both usually a lot cheaper then Midway, also check Cabelas as well. http://www.titanreloading.com/ http://www.cabelas.com/catalog/browse/_/N-1100193?WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104792580 http://stores.ebay.com/The-4-Sportsmen?_rdc=
al4x
I bought the RCBS rockchucker kit which retails out there for £200 or a little more but is miles apart from the lee gear, you will only need to buy once rather than upgrading this that and the other, add a set of dies and you are ready to go. Customs aren't stupid though and it will be a lottery as to whether you get it with no fees or not. If you put a false value on it they can guess the value as well which means you can pay over the odds.
Glensman
I bought the RCBS rockchucker kit which retails out there for £200 or a little more but is miles apart from the lee gear, you will only need to buy once rather than upgrading this that and the other, add a set of dies and you are ready to go. Customs aren't stupid though and it will be a lottery as to whether you get it with no fees or not. If you put a false value on it they can guess the value as well which means you can pay over the odds. The Rockchucker kit sounds like a plan. I really would rather only buy the once... I know customs aren't a bit slow. But I'm going to get MidWay to ship to my sister and then get her to ship it on to me... They can't really say it isn't a gift- because it is. Can they? So I just googled and I'm thinking: Rock Chucker Supreme Rock Chucker Supreme Master Kit... Kit includes press, 5-0-5 scale, Uniflow powder measure, Speer reloading manual #13, hand priming tool, hex key set, case loading block, case lube kit, powder funnel and deburring tool. Kit includes press, 5-0-5 scale, Uniflow powder measure, Speer reloading manual #13, hand priming tool, hex key set, case loading block, case lube kit, powder funnel and deburring tool. $300 So all I need is dies? al4x
simple answer is you should get away with it but they can say and do from time to time. Best thing is her to put gift and a low value but not silly low say $50 so you should get away with it. They are heavy though so delivery can be a little pricy but that weight is what you are paying for a very solidly built press with no flex so you get as accurate reloads as possible. The kits are close to £400 here so you've a fair bit of leeway price wise

So apart from what is listed in the kit (and Dies); is there anything else I need to get started or will I just add the other things later down the line? cooter
If the value is less than £100, or the duty is less than £9, they let it pass in the UK, not sure about Ireland though. Get your sister to use FedeX as they are a lot faster then any of the others, and the tracking system is excellent.

Other than that you should be good to go with a set of dies and shell holders, to make life easy you really want two of each caliber you intend to reload. You can cope with one but you then need to swap it between the primer seater and the press

Good man Al4x; thanks for the advice!
