RFD Fees.

Recommended Posts

I gave my RFD a visit this morning. This involved a round trip of 90 minutes in the car. He is not my closest RFD but his shop is well stocked and he has been pleasant to deal with. Over the past year I have bought two new Beretta's from him, 7000 28 gauge cartridges and 3000 top of the range 12 gauge cartridges. He has also given two of my guns an oil finish. At Christmas both he and his assistant were given a bottle of Malt each. I have been a good customer to him. I enjoy shooting the small gauges and change these guns fairly frequently because I enjoy shooting with a wide range of guns. If I am selling a gun I normally use this RFD to do the gun transfer. I usually pay him £25 for this service. This morning he announced that to send another gun to an RFD would cost £50. I left his shop vowing to myself that I will not give him anymore business. Before I burn my bridges with him can I ask what is the going rate for your RFD to take a gun off your certificate and send it to another RFD?

I recon he thinks your a soft touch  7000 28 gauge carts! and 2 new Beretta's! :o

Call him on it and see if you can get him to let you do it at the old price otherwise you'll be using XYZ in future...

I am no soft touch believe me! I have given this RFD a lot of business over the past year because I do a lot of shooting and appreciate good service. Until this morning I was more than happy to continue giving him my business. To increase your fee by 100% regardless of increases in VAT and courier charges is an absolute nonsense. I do feel that he is taking the proverbial and I am very disappointed by his action but in the end he will be the one who loses out.

The irony for me is that I have recently used another RFD for a gun transfer( send) who has not had any other business from me and is only fifteen minutes from my home. He charged me £15. It looks like he is about to become my RFD of choice. I know that he does not have the overheads associated with premises and stock but there is a significant difference between £15 and £50 for providing the same service. I can always purchase guns and cartridges from other sources.

£25 on each end is about the norm but, there is a new courier company they will collect a gun from the seller and take it to the buyer. the buyer first send the money to the courier service. once he has the gun and all is as stated then the money is released to the seller.

maybe your RFD is using this service.

only a thought.
