Ferret Master
Hi, I have been given a fishing rod and I don't really know what type of rod it is. It looks a bit like a Salmon rod. It is just over 12ft long and just above the long handle it has the words Milbro Veiie. What do you think. apbuild
Going from the length and the type of end ferrule, I would guess that it is a general match rod.
Ferret Master
Hi, I thought that but the bit where you attatch the reel is very low down for such a long handle. FM
mad dog
HI GUYS I THINK IT IS MORE A GAME TYPE ROD THAN A GENERAL USE ? BUT WHAT DO I KNOW RGDS MD
Lord Geordie
Not so sure it's a dedicated Fly rod myself the reel seat would be lower again on a true fly rod. However i DO think it is a Game rod for use for BOTH fly and lure setup. LG

Ferret Master
Hi, Thanks for all the replies! What is a spey rod? There was no hidden treasures in the butt. FM
Cranfield
It looks like a double handed salmon rod to me, but henry d should know for sure. Edit Note; Oooops sorry billy, I see you have already ID'd it.
henry d
Spey casting is where the flyline doesn`t go behind the angler,it is lifted and flicked upstream and then roll casted out in two sererate movements. That way if there are bushes/trees etc. you don`t get caught up in them.

Dunkield
It IS a Double Hnaded Salmon Fly rod. Does it have any other markings FM? It may say what the recommended line line wieght on it somewhere, probably something like 'AFTM # 10' Probably made in the 60's or 70's from what can be seen in the pictures. If not you may be able to find out more by googling it, I have a Milbro Pike rod of a similar age to that with green anodised fittings, looks great but weighs a ton (solid fibreglass) so it never gets used..
