Air rifle power - how do i check?

My airarms s410 doesn't seem to be very powerful so how do I go about getting the power checked and, if necessary, "upped" to 12ft/lbs?

I have looked at buying a chrono to test it myself but everywhere seems to be sold out unless I want to spend more than £100, which I don't.

It may be fine and down to the fact that;

a). I am not a very good shot!

B). My poor judge of distance

c). The fact that this is the first air rifle that i have had for years and I am more used to shooting shotguns

Thanks

Many gunshops will test it for a small fee and providing it is not over the limit will let you take it away too.

Even if it turns out to be over the legal limit the shop can only advise you to get it lowered, they cannot take it off you.

I've never been in this situation and don't intend to be, but I'm curious, I don't understand how that can work?

A RFD tests a gun, finds if over power and knowingly hands it back to a NON FAC owner! Seems to me that makes them an accomplice to a Firearms offense!

RFD are not generally in the habit of handing out FAC tools to non FAC holders!

Same as clubs , if its 30ftlb I could understand but most shops would just turn it down unless snotty nose guts and I know the laws the law

correct ....... if its over power you wont be handed it back until its turned down .

regarding chrono's

cheapest route is a crombo and the next step would be chrony F1

I must have been misinformed or misunderstood what my RFD told me last week.

I am pretty sure he said he has no power to take an overpowered rifle away from anyone if they came in for it to be chrono'd....he would have to give it back and advise them to get it fixed.

I am curious now...anyone that remembers could they ask their RFD to clarify and post back.

It can be a bit tricky as different weight / style / make of pellet will give different chrono readings. You could be legal with one pellet and illegal with another. Even the weather makes a difference!

I have heard it said that when the police check a rifle the fire a variety of pellets all of which have to give readings which calculate to less than 12ft lbs. A good reason not to tweak things too high but to keep well within the legal power limits.
