I Knew Something Was Wrong!

So I posted a picture of my pellet grouping the other day and received some lovely comments which made me feel good.. You can always do better though!

Upon cycling my rifle a few times yesterday I noticed the barrel developing more and more play at the breech which of course concerned me and it had started circling the bullseye rather than hitting it!

I contacted BSA who said that either I get it replaced or have it sent back for warranty repair. So off I went to the retailer who I felt really sorry for as he'd already had a BSA back from me. Looks as though I will never be purchasing a BSA gun again, shame to say that as originally having bought the Lightning because of the legendary branding behind it I was a little upset to have two issues with two guns!

Anyway enough of a ramble and too the point! I swapped it with a little extra cash for an Air Arms TX200mk3 in .22 and am over the moon, the results are much better. The gun overall is a huge improvement, it oozes quality and shoots to match.

So once again I present you my results of 10 shots @ 20m with no bipod freestanding. Still need to fine tune the zero slightly and I had one duff shot where my phone rang...

It really does annoy me when quality control lets a product down, how simple is it to get it right  .

I have always been a Webley fan but as they are no more as such, I moved to the Bsa camp. I have three of their guns, admittedly pcp`s but they have been faultless in their operation and accuracy.

I suppose if you research airgun problems/faults every manufacturer has had them at one time or another, it just seems Bsa are having more than their fair share  .

At least you know it was the gun and not you and you have brought British :good:

A wise buy for you but very sad for BSA that a once great name seems to be slipping away. The only issue to watch with the TX is the power may creep up after a few tins of pellets so it would be wise to check over a chrono on a regular basis. Along with the prosport, the TX is one of the easiest springers to work on as well. A full strip, clean and relube can be done in 30 mins or less.

Happy shooting.

Even some AA stuff is made abroad now, but the TX200 is a very different animal to the BSA Lightning.

And whilst BSA may well have "legendary branding" they are now owned by Gamo. :hmm:

I don't think things being built abroad is a problem, it was clear that cuts have been made and quality control was not up to scratch... for example: missing trigger adjusting grub screw and mangled stock screw in the BSA!

In a way British build quality has dropped through the floor with everything over the last 20 years or so, not just in guns.

The TX200 is in another league in comparison to the Lightning, I should have just spent the cash to start with!

I've had old Brummie BSAs, a load of HW underlevers, but the best by far is the AA Prosport. It absolutely ooozes quality and class, and even a numpty spanner dodger like me can strip and tune it in minutes. The TX200 is virtually the same rifle and an excellent choice. When you can afford it buy a V-Mach tuning kit. I know it is £80, but you won't regeret it. Trust me!
