cpaulc
Just picked up on this post, has anyone had a go at making floater poles with tent poles?
Westley
I have used carbon fibre tent poles for rotor arms and plastic decoys. Dead bird weight may mean rather thick tent poles though.
lakeside1000
I used fibre glass tent poles for floaters with a removable wing spreader frame which clips on but found a problem, the joints allow the bird to spin and usually end up upside down, gaffa tape fixed the joints from spinning but then you cant fold them down until you remove the tape, so am still experimenting with another method to hold the joints tight but still fold when not in use, any suggestions please,
Greenhunter
I am assuming that the rods push into a fixed tube on the next rod. If that is correct then all you have to do i drill a small pilot hole in the rod a couple of millimeters shorter than the rod goes in, use a small screw (4/5mm) as a pin. Mark the tube where it pushes in and cut a corresponding slot in the tube so that the screw slides into it. Won't spin but will still fold up!
