I have a crosman 2240 brand new £80 and has enough poke to dispatch a squirrel and its fun enough for light plinking and is almost endlessly tweak able with various upgrades and tat

My 2240 with a ratty stock, hw silencer and a lil simmons scope :good:

I can't help thinking that is 2 different statements.

For back garden plinking and Coke can shooting almost anything can bring a grin.

For quarry work, even rats, some respect must be in order, therefore cost is likely to rise, as someone else said most pistols are 3-4ft lb, that will do a rat for sure (if you can hit it) but consider a decent pistol as close to 6ft lb as you can find if you intend live quarry!

ATB!

Avoid the newer Crossmans like the plague-they have plastic breach blocks and are poor quality being knocked together in Mexico-despite stating "made in the usa" on the body.Have a look on the Airgun bbs if you really want one as theres a couple of lads on there that rebuild/tune the earlier models-or simply buy the superior HW45.

Hi,

I happen to have a lovely HW45 .177 Silver Star which would fit the bill perfectly. Two power levels; 1/2 cock = approx 3ftlb, full cock = approx 5.5 ftlb and it looks stunning too.

Thanks for the heads up mfletch.
