beanieboy
I have both metal and plastic mags for my 452 - must say the plastic one feels a bit on the cheap side [only recently got it] - do they last as well as the metal? and are they as reliable? Are 10 shot mags generally [either metal or plastic] as reliable as 5 shot ones?
Billy.
I prefer the plastic ones. They don't scratch car paintwork and are cheap to replace when they decide to go walkies. You'll find the metal ones are much easier to lose, as they have a loose fit in the gun and weigh more, so one clip of the release and it's gone. However the plastic ones are quite tight fitting, so they rarely fall out by accident. All in all, I've had plastic mags for years and they're as good as the day I bought them. beanieboy
Thanks for the reply Billy - the plastic ones seem a bit flimsy, but they are obviously durable enough if they have lasted you for years - good to know.
Tiger955i
HI Mate I agree with Billys comments above. 10 round mags work fine but personally I prefer 5 round mags as they sit flush to the stock. I do not like the way the the 10 shot ones stick out, sometimes catch on clothing and get in the way when taking standing shots. I also only load the 5 shot mags with 4 rounds and load safe. This reduces any strain on the mag catch. This suits me and the way quarry presents its self on our shoot but probably will not suit everyone. Hey, we all have a view, the plastic mags are **** in comparison with the metal, that's my view , and they will never fall out unless you unclip them! I've never lost any of them! ..and metal or plastic my magazines are never in a position to scratch any car paintwork! Price wise you can't be serious, thay are both daft prices! 5 or 10 shot, metal or plastic the choice is down to the individual. The 10 shot mags (whatever calibre) thumps me in the kidneys when I throw the gun over my shoulder on the sling. I have 5 shot metal and plastic in all calibres and 1 x 10shot .22lr in plastic, they ALL work as well as the day I got them! 5 shot METAL in .22lr, HMR and WMR is my first choice 100%. Probably no help, and apparently all plastic, but......... http://czmags.co.uk/ Edited June 23, 2011 by Dekers
Scully
Didn't even know you could get metal ones.Have the plastic 5 round mag' that came with my rifle who knows how long ago.Have never had any issues with it at all.

You've clearly never shot your rifle off a wing mirror then... Next time you're out, sit your rifle on the wing mirror and slide it forwards. The mirror will push the release clip in and out drops the magazine (if it's metal) Secondly, the plastic 10 shot is £19.99 and the cheapest metal one I could find was £25, so the plastic ones are cheaper. How you can't see that a metal one will scratch paintwork off is beyond me. Have you not ever had to shoot across the bonnet of a car, but not had enough time to get the bipod down (or don't have one), so you have to rest the rifle across the bonnet and shoot? The edge of the magazine is in a prime spot to put a curved scrape across your bonnet as you follow a bolting rabbit. Edited June 23, 2011 by Billy. I didn't say the plastic weren't cheaper! But if you must go there, I got my Plastic 5 shot .22lr via the uk distributer for around £22 I seem to remember, but I did an import deal on 5 shot METAL mags for .22lr/HMR/WMR for about £15 each I remember!! That makes the Metal much cheaper in this instance. I didn't say a metal one won't scratch paint of, I said mine never get in a position to scratch paintwork off, and if you are pivoting on a magazine to shoot off a bonnet I'm lost, use the SLING under the magazine and on the wing mirror, it will NOT scratch and it will not activate the release catch, and a plastic one will still scratch anyway given the chance. I suspect you are talking about the 10 shot mag, another good reason why NOT to buy them, you don't get that problem with the 5shot! ATB!
