Got my Boyd's stock today. All in the total was around £120 which is pretty good. Only problem is that one of the screw heads twisted off when tightening it all together, leaving me with the threaded bit stuck in my new stock  It's really annoyed me as I must now drill the screw out and attempt to source a new screw that will fit the countersunk profile of the screwhole in the trigger guard.

A new factory screw would fit if I drilled it out with the perfect sized bit, but it really didn't take much effort to twist the head off the screw. I've just lost all faith in the factory screws that CZ provide. It reminded me of pewter the way it came off. Just seemed a really weak lead alloy metal type material. Whats wrong with making screws out of steel ***.

They are made of steel, but CZ expect two things......

1/ That you use a screwdriver that is a perfect fit for the screw head.

2/ And that you insert the screw in to a pre-drilled hole of the proper size.

(which is tapered by the way)

Neil. :)

All sorted and stock fitted. The screw was utter tripe. Very very soft metal. I compared the snapped screw to another taken from the rifle and it appears that the snapped screw must have been a bit of a rogue. The screw holes were very small when I got the stock, hence the reason I drilled them out. All is sorted now anyway. Very happy overall with the fit and finish of the stock. Worth the dough in my opinion.

Bump,

Right I want a lovely boyds thumbhole stock for my 452 Varmint HMR.

Couple of questions, from what I've read I'll need to ask for magnum inletting is that correct?

Also will the action just drop in or am I gonna need to hack, drill and screw to make it fit?

Lastly, must this stock and action be bedded as this is something I have absolutely no idea about?

Thank You :good:

Not sure about the hmr but with my .22lr varmint the action dropped straight in all I had to do was drill the holes for the trigger guard.

I have recently found I do have some movement between my action and stock though as the I letting has been slightly over done so gonna bed it to fill the gaps.

Email Boyds from the link on their site & tell them exactly what rifle you want a stock for - the magnum inlet does require slight modification I believe.

Thanks for the reply, this is what I'm struggling with a little as some say it's a straight fit and others say it needs modding?

I'll email them as you suggest :good:

I think UK prices are £200 + and then they arnt finished !

I bought this one for £130 delivered personally to my door by the guy who makes them from scratch. Its alot lighter than my friends CZ455 factory stock.

When i sold my old stock it worked out about £80.00 !!! He does loads of different colour options,

If you want his contact details and his website i will send you it.
