il cacciatore
I may be deciding to buy a motorbike in the future. I'm on the restricted motorcycle licence of 33bhp or 125cc for another year and a bit (CAT A). So this means I have three options: Get a 125cc and it can be any bhp. Get a bigger capacity bike as long as its 33 bhp or less. Get a big capacity bike and have it restricted to 33 bhp. I had an insurance quote for a Suzuki Bandit 600cc restricted to 33bhp limit and they wanted 1.5 grand third party only. So I guess the big bikes are out of the question. What would you do? The test procedure is: Compulsory Basic Training first to get your L plates. Then its the restricted licence test (33bhp or 125cc) then you can either wait 2 years for the full licence or go for the further test for your full licence. Once you go through this rigmarol you cant get insurance! Edited April 24, 2006 by il cacciatore

il cacciatore
I guess so. I'm 21 so I'm guessing I need to be forking out thousands. There changing the licencing system in 2010 (I think) and theyre going to make it 10x more difficult to get a licence.
Lord Geordie
Iv'e seen the way you Italians drive you MOPEDS let alone motorbikes  Using the PAVEMENT if fine for you lot Maybe just as well they change the driving licence requirements  LG
Axe
I would suggest getting a medium sized bike that is powered at the limit you require. A small 125 chugging out great power is not a safe option. Small tyres and brakes and a high output is not a reliable investment. Whilst getting a larger bike and restricting it will give you a very underpowered bike without the security of getting out of trouble. So, get a bike designed to operate at the 33bhp and you'll have a good alround reliable and safe bike.
old rooster
Aprillia RS 125 go get em Flloyd !!!! Mopeds and other farty little bikes are bl**dy dangerous as they can't keep up with the general traffic flow, the 'Prilla will do you very nicely then you can get a nice big Ducati when you pass your test

Mine was liquid cooled however. I had malossi bits CB 350 is over the 33bhp limit. edit - sorry missed the CB1, yeh looks pretty decent really. Another 100mph 125 is the cagiva mito. Dont even know if they still do them. TBH I think theyre abit naff, would rather go for something not as fast but abit more torquey. SNAKEBITE
I pay sod all for my push bike! Plus I get the satisfaction of going quicker in traffic jams Oh and I can ride on pavements and not pay anything if I damage your car, not forgetting I don't need to pay any attention to the rules of the road and forget to signal when turning................ (JOKE!)

Dont get me started on cyclists not obeying the laws of the road. Just because they have an "eco-freindly" mode of transport doesnt mean they are above the law! Today I was driving along and this guy on a bike came scooting of the pavement and was cycling in the middle of the road and then run a red! Whats that all about? I should have mentioned I have a budget of 1000 pounds for a bike and insurance if I can get a good enough buy. So far the classifieds have brought up a Vespa T5 and a Honda 185 XL. Edited April 24, 2006 by il cacciatore

Just because they have an "eco-freindly" mode of transport doesnt mean they are above the law! Can I please point out that no cyclist is above the law. Although a keen cyclist I detest any stupidity from any cyclist when it comes to road manners. On the flip side I would like the respect from other road users and being cut up because "well you're only a cyclist mate" is likely to cause great upset B)
il cacciatore
I respect cyclists but some of them because theyre on a bike think that automatically allows them to run red lights! Also weaving on and off of pavements is just stupidity. B)
