snipe
Wild young MALLARD seem to have done well, however sawbills have not had it so good I hope this is the case Henry on the sawbill front, but curious to see why? I haven't seen any around for a while, but my understanding is that they haven't dropped down from the headwaters or arrived in numbers yet? On another note I was in Iceland a couple of weeks back and they were having a very late summer, as their spring was cold and prolonged. This really hampered the progression of the ducks, geese, snipe etc. which I'm sure find their way onto our shores. Let's hope they faired better after I left. Snipe. henry d
I hope this is the case Henry on the sawbill front, but curious to see why? Perhaps the continued high water of the Tay has prevented the young from feeding themselves? Mum can only feed them for so long. It has been running high most of the summer(what`s that then ?) as well as being brown and thick so it could be the reason I haven`t seen the broods of mergs an gooses.
