Woodypk
Hey guys, Looking to apply for my licence. But, before I do, I want to be looking at guns and their prices. Does anyone know any good 12G shotguns for the beginner with a reasonable price (looking to buy second hand)? It will mostly be used for targets and clays, but if I get a permission I would like it to be able to shoot over land. Basically I'm looking for a decent all rounder with a reasonable price. And its nothing serious I just want to know peoples opinions on which guns are good for starters. Thanks guys and ATB, Tom.
semiautolee
cant go wrong with a lanber good strong reliable guns! but the most important thing when buying a gun is to MAKE SURE IT FITS YOU ! if it doesnt fit properly your wasteing your time, try a a few different guns see what fits the best and to find out which one you like and suits you Edited August 24, 2011 by semiautolee

HDAV
As a BASC junior you may want to look at suitable guns if your still growing then a gun with some adjustment will last you longer (adjustable comb and possibly butt pad. Baikal and LAnber tend to be heavier which reduces the recoil but can tire the arms. I would suggest have a few lessons first try a few guns the coach recommends fit you. Most clay grounds should have a range of suitable guns. As for buying make sure it fits. Budget is another thing, it's possible to get a usable gun for £100 but many people pay more, prestige, reliability, fit, fashion etc. all play a part but it needs to fit you. The adjustable guns tend to only come as higher end as the cost of the mods can be upwards of £500 Adjustable combs are £160-£200 fitted and recoil reducers or stock lengthener's are £250-£400 depending This is an adjustable stock http://www.americhoke.com/GC1.jpg So a gun with the work already done is more money (and only worth doing on a gun with some value) but generally better value. Some New Guns like the Browning Cynergy come out of the factory with adjustable stocks http://www.gun.co.uk/?page=Browning Don't rush to buy and certainly while waiting for application have as many lessons as you can! Under £550 Lanber Sporter Over £650 Beretta 68 Series Sporter Depends what you call reasonable Gunsmith once told me he hates Berettas as he rarely has much work to do on them what he has to do the parts are on his bench and cost around £50 max, so he does not make money on them. Jega
Hi mate welcome to the wonderful world that is shooting .Looking at your location i would advise you to get down to North Coates Butts shooting club and get some first hand advice from the guys down there .If you ask nicely they will usually let you have a go with several different guns along with some sound guidance as to what to get and what to avoid .Gun clubs are pretty good places for picking up second hand bargains as well .Good Luck . Heres the link to the club. http://www.northcotesbutts.co.uk/

Lol I know him too..... If it's the same chap he doesn't shoot a Beretta! Guns are funny objects, people love and hate them equally and for the same reasons! Woodypk
Cheers for all the replied guys. I have quite a small frame at around 5'3 and I have only ever shot a (and dont quote me on this) a Browning Maxxus 26" I think as it was a club gun on a clay shooting day. I could probably stretch to around £400 or around there. I said I was gonna get a £300 airgun and ended up spending £950 with the pump etc... So we shall see. I will bear the name Lanber in mind. And Jega, A guy who I work with is a regular member there and he said he will take me this weekend or next week sometime to have a go with his 'Kentucky' rifle and some of his shottys. Can't wait, should be great fun. Cheers guys, ATB, Tom.
HDAV
Hi Tom lanbers can be quite heavy you might if your lucky get a lightweight Franchi Falconet in your budget, depending on build, fit and age the right gun will be out there. The Mxus is a semi auto and these can be lighter and less recoiling than an O/U but a 28/30 O/U will do everything you need as long as it fits. also if your still growing you will loose less selling a better gun than you would on a cheaper one ( depending of course on how much you pay and how you look after it!) dan-250
I'm new to them too, it's a whole new world but I've been shooting a miroku mk60 in my lessons and it's fits and feels nice so I have my head set on a mk70 all being well if it fits the same 30" barrels over and under nice weight, but saying that he is going to let me shoot his girlfriends silver pigeon next time I go, so at the moment I'm still bias
Woodypk
Hmm, it wasnt a Maxxus then because it was an O/U lol. I only remember the look of the gun and it was a browning so I thought it may have been that one. Ah well, I can talk to the guy who is a keen shotgun shooter and ask him for some pointers. Cheers guys, Tom.
dan-250
Get down to a clay shoot , normally first Sunday of the month for the clubs near me, people seem pleased if you ask to have a go with theres. It's always a good conversation starter and a nice way to make new friends plus you get a feel to alot, they will mainly be over unders but do come across the odd semi, you will get the idea of weight, the action, fit, looks, every body likes something different, so get a try of as many as you can, at least that way your not loosing hundreds of pounds by buying selling swapping. unapalomablanca
Dont be sucked in, get a really cheap little knockabout gun from uk gunroom for 100quid and tidy up the stock. I just bought a spanish lig for that, its a side by side and is as solid as a rock. When i bought my first gun i made the mistake of having to have a new silver pigeon, i soon got tired of worrying about scratching it and sold it. Use your money for cartridges, a gun is a gun and no pigeon likes 'em no matter what the price is!!!
